Me too actually, but I m waiting after January when the mbp MIGHT be properly updated.

If I was to order now, I would stick with the 2.4 but upgrade the HDD.

    Damn all this waiting lol

They give out free iPods in December? Really? The only promotion that I know that Apple does regularly is the back-to-school get a free iPod Nano promotion.

I think I read in your other thread that you've ordered one already, so yeah :p. If you do decide to wait though, the next expected update is in early 2008 with the release of Intel Penryn processors.

^what Sam said. I'm also fairly sure that the only promotion that Apple gives on a consistent basis is the free ipod nano back to school special.

lol @ xprohx - not trying to be a dick by laughing at you, but you can upgrade to a 2.6Ghz processor in the options on the apple online store.

I seriously doubt that, since it would take more effort and have less benefits to mechanically attach a CPU to a board, especially these days.

Also, Apple does offer multiple processors already, what is one more?

I just hopped over to store.apple.com to check out the 2.6 GHz upgrade option, and sure enough it is there.
I noticed that they upped the price of the memory upgrade from $649 to $700 for 4GB memory. I think they're a little confused as to how product depreciation works...?
Also, I see they now offer 200GB 7200rpm drives. poop! That would have been nice to have.

If you guys are talking about the 2.6ghz not being on apple. It is availablewhen you purchase it online.
I would personally wait a few more months, there are rumor flying around that the macbook pros will go for an update soon.

The next update of the MBP is expected to be in early 2008 with Penryn. Most likely there won't be any price change, if so probably only a price drop. I don't see Apple increasing the price of the MBP any further.

I would wait for Penryn but I need this laptop in Feb '08 and I don't think they would upgrade the MBP before Feb.

Yes, the update is thru applestore.com. There is no way I am soldering a new CPU by myself. Way too expensive to experiment.

Well, if you can't wait (and remember, Apple is unpredictable...they might get Penryn chips earlier than everyone else or they might not update until late February, its hard to say), then I'd say get it now. The updates won't make your MBP obsolete, and the current MBP is already a very powerful and mature machine.

I second your idea of getting the MBP.

My neighbor has one, and we play a lot of games with each other.

It can max out (current) games with AA on.

    For Crysis...Med-high settings...

I wasn't sure if they did that, but thanks for the clarification.

I would recommend buying it now if you need it sooner versus later. I would imagine that Penryn is going to need time to mobilize after its launch, so manufacturers may not have models out for some time after the launch.
