I'm using the online Apple store right now and customizing a MacBook (the white one with the 2.0 GHz processor) and when I went to upgrade the hard drive from 80 GB to 120 GB, the price actually went down from $999 to $977 (I am using the student discount.) I did this with the other MacBooks and MacBook Pro, and it seems that by upgrading to the next level from the standard hard drive, the price actually goes down. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Edit: It seems to give an error whenever I try to add the item to my cart now.

Um, maybe there were conflicting issues with Apple's update to their store [MBP refresh]. Does it still have that problem now?

yeah, if gets added to your cart at the correct price, otherwise I would have just bought a new Macbook Pro. Oh well.

Hah--you're right! Upgrading the harddrive does reduce the price. However, like you, I cannot add the item to my cart. Maybe they're working on the problem right now?

i bet that the larger harddrive is slower (4200 rpm)

this is pretty normal, to charge somewhat less for a larger, slower, hdd
