I've burnt numerous CDs and DVDs in the last ten days and never noticed this red glow emitted from the left half of the optical drive mouth till now. This is only while burning; nothing visible while reading.

    Has anyone else noticed it?

As cool as that sounds, is it normal? I've had a MBP for almost a year without noticing that! There's either something wrong with you pro or with my eyes, I think it's the later :)

Yep, it is cool to see and I'm hoping it's normal although I have yet to see anything official about it online. Note that you have to be doing the writing/burning in a pretty dark setting to be able to see it and even then it's not that bright.

That's what I thought too when I first saw it. Can I change the glow to blue? :p

If you watch a movie, say at night with the room's lights off, and put your eyes level with the CD/DVD slot, you'll see a red glow; at least I see it on mine!
It's kind of a faint glow, I haven't seen it during the day, but again I watch movies only at night...

my guess is its the laser being shown through the cd/dvd that points towards the left side of the cddrive.

cd/dvds reflect light very easily, this has got to be it.

    nothing wrong here.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's normal and there's quite a difference between when writing and just reading. During the latter I can hardly see it even at night but with the former, it's quite visible but no where near as bad as in the photo linked above.

lol. Yeah, I know. I was at work burning a DVD and it was dark and just happened to notice the red glow. It got my attention when I saw it as I hadn't seen anything like it before, that's all. :)

I doubt its anything bad. If it bugs you you can send apple an email or sumhin but it doesnt seem like its worth any trouble.
