Hey all,
I haven't been keeping updated with Apple news since I bought my MBP last year. The last exciting news I read about was the rumors of an aluminum Macbook for Montevina, but now I'm searching for updates, and that hype seemed to have died down.. So what happened? I heard some people say that the new Macbooks are now being delayed until August, since Montevina has been delayed, but I can't find further details..![]()

The thing is, everyone expected the MacBook to go aluminum and professional, and turns out the MacBook wasn't replaced, a new MacBook was added (the MacBook Air). So there isn't as much speculation for a radical MacBook redesign anymore. The more urgent redesign would be the MacBook Pro.

Thanks Sam.. so no redesigned Macbook this year at all? Will the Macbook still get the Monetvina refresh late July/early August?

^ No one really knows, except Apple.
I'd think that if there's going to be an update, rumors would start to surface soon, maybe in 2 weeks or so. Recently, information about new products has been leaking out from Apple.
I'd suggest hanging around these forums, or subscribe to RSS services like the unofficial apple weblog; the world of apple; Macworld, etc. -
I would expect the MacBook to get Montevina eventually, but maybe not right away. We don't really know if there will be a MacBook redesign. The good thing is, now that Apple uses Intel chips, Mac updates will happen around the time new Intel chips are released, so we can pretty much pinpoint the next updates for Macs being for Montevina and then Nehalem in early 2009.

what are the expected new features/upgrades that the montevina macbook will have? will it have hdmi and led screen? also, will it have a backlit keyboard?

Doesn't matter how they redesign the MacBooks if they continue to refuse to give us a GPU thats at least as good as what the almost 3 year old iBooks have in them.

There are two reasons why I think the MB will be redesigned along with the Montevina upgrade.
1. All macs (iMac, Mac Pro, MBP, MBA) are using aluminum. Even the "consumer" iMac. The MB is the only mac using plastic. As apple looks to go more green and are making their consumer line more uniform with their professional line (iMac) the MB would logically be the next step in upgrading to aluminum.
2. The current chipset used in the MB is Santa Rosa. And like all other chpsets before it, Santa Rosa uses Socket A (A built in part of the plastic encasing) Montevina which debuts on July 14th uses Socket B. Socket B requires a differently built encasing. Now they could just rearrange the plastic encasing to work with Socket B, but this really is a golden opportunity for them to go greener, and make their product line completely uniform.
Just my 2 cents

thanks for all the responses so far.. i sold my MBP to help purchase a guitar, but now i have enough to get another notebook. my case is that i could really use one now, but i can also be patient and wait until montevina comes out.. decisions decisions...
