Ever since the new MBP came out I've had a high interest in the now previous generation. I checked out the refurb stores often and noticed that the previous gen was a pretty hot item. Along with the apple store reburb section redesign, it seems like previous gen MBPs are locked at 1599 price or higher range.

Question to new owners and those who have played around with the new gens. Is the difference between 1600 and 2000 enough to sway you one way or the other.

I know for me, I will be in areas where I can control my lighting and from some honest testimonies the brightness can offset the glare pretty well if you are already used to some sort of glossy screen. Let me know what you think!

i think there are macbook pros going for 1249 at times in the refurb section. they have one for 1349 now.

    15.4-inch widescreen display
    2GB memory
    200GB hard drive
    8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 256MB of GDDR3 memory
    Built-in iSight Camera

The old version uses the 8600gt gpu which is basically a ticking time bomb.

****. My eyes completely passed over that. I looked at that page about 3 times too. I guess this thread is a wash eh?

I've read tons of articles, posts, threads on the 8600 which is pretty much my last leg to stand on when it comes to picking up the latest MBP. It's that bad eh?

i dont think its that bad. you are covered by apple if it dies. i do believe they extended the warranty service on machines equipped with the 8600gt. the thing is: do you want to deal with it if it dies? meaning.... are you willing to send your laptop away for a week or two while its being fixed? but i must say, thats quite a large price difference between the old and new macbook.

It happens to the best of us. :D
The refurb store is almost constantly being updated, so just be patient if you're looking for that right price. ;)

Very true my friend. Fortunately I don't feel forced to get the latest and greatest. Saves me money, and I still get a solid piece of Apple product (minus the possibility of the GPU giving me a hurting). 1350+tax 2000+tax. I can get some nice stuff for that difference.

Yeah! I will just blame apple updating their stuff too much! :D

I paid 2k for this so 1300-1400 sounds good to me

i recently got a new 17" (replacement unit) and it's great, i think you'll still be very happy with the older mbp, esp at such a discounted price. give the new unibody macs another revision or so to work out the kinks, and possibly quad core later next year.

I was talking to an apple store employee last week who told me that once the new MBPs were announced, there was a flock (at least at their store) for the older ones with the matte screens. Apple can probably squeeze out a few more bucks from the old(er) matte screened MBPs.
