The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. Core 2 Duo: Not really, unless you really need 64bit processing. You'll lose about 5-10% of the speed of a Core 2 Duo with the equivalently clocked Core Duo, but that's nothing most people will miss. RAM is much more important.

Refurbished: If it's in your price range, and Apple warrants it, it should be fine. Refurb is often someone who returned the machine because they couldn't afford it, lots of reasons. As long as they guarantee everything, you should be ok.

Many people swear by Apple refubs and will not buy anything other than refurbs.
