So, I've got 2500 to spend on a new laptop, and since I've had my eye on those shiny macs for a while now, I've decided to officially make the switch. The macbook won't cut it for me in terms of gaming capabilites and a couple other things, so I'm going with a macbook pro. The only issue is that it's on the pricey side, so I've been considering getting a refurbished mbp. I've only heard good things about refurbed macs (please please please correct me if I'm wrong), so I'm not too worried about that.
The only issue I have is that I REALLY want the new OS, Leopard, which looks like it'll have all kinds of awesome features. My questions is once they start shipping new laptops with the Leopard OS, how long do you think it would take for the refurbished computers to come with Leopard? Do you think it would be weeks or more like *gulp* months? And on that note, I've heard about refurbished computers sometimes coming with extra software that the previous owner had installed? Do you guys know anything about that?
Thanks for helping about a noob switcher!

stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
youll be fine with a refurb, trust me. *pats macbook*
they should start installing it the day it comes out, but if you did buy one say 2 or 3 days after it came out and it didnt have leopard, im sure a quick call to apple could get you a free or very very cheap copy.
and i dont think they will come with any old software. -
Refurbished Macs come with the OS they were originally sold with. Apple will not install Leopard on refurbished Macs that were previously sold with Tiger. Maybe you can persuade a sales representative to give you a Leopard upgrade if you're lucky.
I have no idea how long until refurbished Macs will be available with Leopard or about the "extra software" either. The computer should have OS X and iLife. -
Hey whirledpeas! I remember helping you out in the WNSIB forum!
Anyways, the refurbished Macs have been known to be of excellent quality. Most people that have them say others would not have known it was a refurb until they were told it was.
Anyways, as Xander said, the refurb Mac will come with the OS it was sold with. As for when Leopard Macs will go on sale in the refurb Store, it depends how many people return their shiny new Leopard Macs.
And plus, Leopard isn't that expensive anyways. Its just $129 US (less than Microsoft Office Student Edition costs!), and with the Student Discount its expected to cost only $69!
