hey guys. i just ordered a momentus 7200.4 from the dell website, they seem to be the only guys who have it in stock.
i want to install leopard fresh on the new 500gb drive. so from my understanding, there's a migration assistant that will help me transfer my apps, my music, my photos, etc from my old drive (attatched via usb) to my new installation right?
what happens to software licenses and stuff? i use mostly opensource software, so my main concern is will my ilife installation remain intact? I use omnioutliner too. it was bundled with my mac... will my registration remain valid?
kind of need some clearing up here. thanks.![]()

Migration assistant will bring over as little or as much as you want depending on what you check. If you want all your software to work tell it to bring everything (even files) over and its likely you won't need to reinstall anything or rekey in any activation codes.
There are some exceptions but I recently did this and had over 80 third party programs come over without a hitch. Without knowing the programs thats about al that can be said. -
my main concern is ilife. Did that come over?

Yes, all your applications will be copied over.

I used MA, last week to transfer my old white mb to my new alu mb.
It took about 2-3 hrs to complete the transfer (approx 200Gb) from my TM backup.
It worked really well, and I so far my new macbook is running great.
One bit of advice, make sure you de-authorize iTunes, and any other programs, so that you can re-activate them on your new drive.
iLife will be fine as is, nothing special to do, it will just work !
