I got my new 2.2 GHz sr mbp yesterday from amazon. When i opened the box and power it on, i noticed the flicker problem on my mbp when the brightness was set less than 100%. It was very obvious when the background is set to a dark gray. I then installed windows xp using bootcamp 1.3. I switched to a gray desktop in windows and dropped the brightness to less than 100% and noticed no flicker when in windows. Could the flickering issue be related to a software issue in the mac os?

have you done the updates to tiger yet?

Yes, it is probably *nix related. *nix has longstanding issues with power management.

what is nix? I don't have issues with my macbook

*nix... unix, linux, and other derivitives. Mac OS X was based on BSD (roughly...), which is covered in *nix
