when are these going to start showing up at the apple store? Also will they be any cheaper than getting a MBP with the education discount?
-
Soon, and yes. Refurbished Apples are always cheaper than any other new Apples Apple sells.
-
Once people start returning them for any reason they should start showing up.
-
They won't be cheaper than the educational discount. They'll be the same price. Plus, I'm not sure if you get the iPod with refurbs.
If you're a student, education discount + MBP + free iPod is a GREAT way to go IMO. You get a great machine for a reasonable price (cheaper than the comparable Asus G1S). -
and not ugly as fck
-
well I don't really want to fork over $2,122.88 and then have to deal with a rebate and selling the ipod. I was hoping I could get a refurb/used MBP for cheaper. Is there any way I can get out of paying taxes ($122.88)?
-
welll.... if you can find a relative or friend in Oregon or NH(?) and have it sent to them you dont get charged saled tax
then have them ship it to you.
i advise you to just buy it for the student discount of 1800, keep teh ipod or sell it for like 150 to a friend, keep the free printer, have it all shipped to someone in Oregon or NH, pretty good deal if u ask me -
Delaware or Oregon are the only ones with no taxes.
-
1. Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Montana, New Hampshire, and Oregon don't have a state sales tax. But does Apple charge tax based off the shipping address or the billing address?
2. If you don't care about the free Nano and printer, you could get a Student ADC membership. Costs $99, you get a free t-shirt and probably a copy of Leopard when it comes out. But more importantly a one time discount on Apple Hardware, which means a base MBP is $1599 + $99 + tax.

I asked about this and supposedly you DO get to use the printer rebate but not the ipod rebate if you buy from the ADC store (even as a student member). If you actually look at the ADC store you'll see the ad for the free printer, but no ads for the ipod.
-
Sorry to ask a dumb question but how do you guys know about the copy of leopard?
-
1. As far as the free printer + ADC discount, it's not very clear. Per the ADC site:
http://developer.apple.com/faq/hwpp.html:
4. I see special offers, rebates, and promotions on the online Apple Store/retail store/reseller store. Are purchases made through the ADC Hardware Purchase Program eligible for these promotions?
Purchases made through the ADC Hardware Purchase Program are NOT eligible for most Apple or third-party promotions or rebates. You may see wording on an online Store that indicates eligibility, however, please consult the official terms and conditions of all promotional offers before placing an order. There are no refunds on items purchased through the ADC Hardware Purchase Program.
Now the printer rebate form states:
Terms and Conditions
Purchase and take possession of an Apple Macintosh computer and a qualifying printer and receive up to $100 via mail-in rebate. For printers selling for less than $100, the rebate amount is up to the retail sales price of the printer, excluding sales tax. Qualifying products must be purchased together between April 24, 2007, and July 23, 2007. Purchases must be made at the online Apple Store, a retail Apple Store, or through Apple Telesales located in the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. Qualifying orders from the online Apple Store or Apple Telesales that are placed during the promotion and ship after the offer ends are eligible.
Promotion Restrictions
All Apple computer(s) and qualifying printer(s) must be purchased on the same invoice or sales receipt. This offer is valid only while supplies last. Up to five (5) rebates may be claimed on one coupon based on the number of Apple computers and printers purchased. This offer is for end customers only. Reseller purchases do not qualify.

2. If you have an active Student ADC Membership when Leopard is released, you will receive a copy, just not on the launch date.

Leopard is not an official perk of a student ADC account. While many users claim to have received Tiger when it was released there is no guarantee you will get Leopard when it is released. I would look at that as a possibility not a definite.
-
I'm not sure what your timetable is for getting this MBP, but the ADC discount is a little more complicated (time) than the student discount. Plus, the ADC is online only.
-
Well I need this laptop by August (19th? I think). I would also want a little time to play with it as this will be my first mac. I have relatives in Portland so Oregon is a definite possibility. Thanks for the help guys
.

This is a question about the ADC discount.
Does anyone know how long it takes to process your information and how long it takes for you to be able to use your discount? -
The Apple Store is now offering the 2.2ghz version of the new Santa Rosa Macbook Pros...seems like a good deal(1699), though I'll be buying mine with my education discount and tax-free weekend...
-
figures, it was bound to appear within a week from when I ordered my new one.
It would probably ship sooner too. oh, well
-
stealthsniper96 What Was I Thinkin'?
i hate that. i got my refurb MB and its the one with a combo drive i payed 999 for it. the day i got it the mac store had the one with the super drive for 999 and now they have the same one i got for 949. :{ -
The Refurbished 2.4GHz Santa Rosa MacBook Pro is available right now from the Apple Store. Both 15" and 17" for $2,199 and $2,399, respectively. Refurbished prices ARE better than Education Store prices, but no iPod deal.
I don't see anymore 2.2GHz models, so maybe these Santa Rosa Refurbs are going fast. -
Not true. Hawaii does have a state sales tax. It is 4.56%
-
What tax-free weekend??
-
Certain states have Tax-free holidays for buying school supplies, computers, clothes, etc. for the upcoming school year. I live in Missouri, so ours is this weekend, Friday through Sunday. It gets nuts at places like Wal-Mart.
-
I just looked up my state (Florida):
* Clothing and related items with a sales price of $50 or less
* Books with a sales price of $50 or less
* School supplies with a sales price of $10 or less
Oh well...
-
Wow, there's no limit on clothing here or school supplies here or even computer accessories, and the limit on actual computers is 3500!
