Hello, fellow forum members. I've been a long-time lurker at this forum.

I have just ordered a MBP 17" after thinking for a long time (the price was pretty insane, but i'm sure it's worth it :D ) I am also thinking about upgrading the RAM and the HDD to SSD, but I've heard that MBPs, especially the 17", has issues with non-apple SSDs :( . Can anyone confirm this issue or recommend a SSD that works in MBP 17" without a hitch?

    Thanks in advance.

Never heard of this. But what I want to say is that only update it when you feel it is slow. It will save a lot of money for you.

I can confirm I havd had issues trying to install both sandforce and Intel based SATA 3 SSD's due to compete system instabilities and had to revert back to a SATA 2

if you do some looking on the Apple support forum and Macrumours there are many of us having the same issues in 13",15" and 17" there are theories that it is the cable having too much interference as well as a problem with OSX as many users have not had any issues when running their macbooks with windows only.
