Anyone know how to get ALL my data from firefox to safari? (Passwords, History, Bookmarks, Cache...etc) I tried foxmarks but that doesn't bring all my data.
Usally when you start a new browser it ask you if you want to import any thing. But Safari 4 didn't. If I can't do this I will not switch, witch suck because I hear it's good.
-
i thought you could export the ones from firefox and load it into safari
-
On Safari, from the menu bar choose File-Import bookmarks. I understand how you feel but Safari is the default browser on a Mac which is why Firefox imports cache and such, you may not be able to get that. Also "switch"? While it's good, it's beta, just play around with it for now but I wouldn't recommend relying on it till the GM.

it is good.. I like it in many ways... but why the heck can't we disable the "Top Sites" or be able to choose what is in them. It can be quite embarrassing if you go to a site thats personal in some way, wether XXX rated or support groups or whatever, then have it always show up in there even if you clear you cache... Safari 4 is nice, but it has a long way to go... may better import features will be one of them.
-
You can choose what's in them. In Top Sites hit "Edit" on the bottom left of the reflection on the browser. From there you can rearrange, delete and pin which sites you prefer.
-
i know you can delete or rearrange them, but it still adds what it wants... if you delte everything it puts them back in.. it modifies stuff...
so your saying i have to wait until it has a buncha sites I like to have on it.. hopefully .. some day.. then go lock them in...? thats kinda stupid -
Well this sucks, I just don't even feel like using it if I can't have all my data in there.
-
They will most likely add the capability when it gets out of beta. I am also waiting for that because I plan to switch over.
-
Well, don't get mad at the messenger, I was just addressing your concern.
All you have to do is surf to a new website and it will appear in the last Top Sites frame.
-
its supposed to.. but it doesn't... i cleared mine out and i went to about 20 different websites before it stuck 3 more on it.
there's some I've gone to like 10 times that still don't come up on there... and some forums I've gone to and refreshed some threads that have like 5 top sites all on the same website on different pages... it doesn't work good. -
You're right, it doesn't work good and I know what you are talking about but I figured out what works most of the time. Make sure all Top Sites windows are showing, meaning choose Edit on the bottom left and choose Small on the bottom right. Surf to a new site then quit Safari. Open it up and it should be there in Top Sites. Yeah it's a pain but it's beta and this should be reported as a bug.
-
That's why, always use private browsing aka p0rn mode when you go to xxx rated websites
-
Don't bother with it. Firefox is a better browser. Safari may get higher scores in javascript benchmarking but it doesn't load sites any faster than Firefox does after casual use.
The best feature of Safari is the "top sites" page that they ripped off of Chrome and the great thing about Firefox is that there is an add-on that can do the very same thing. -

safari 4 rocks.
it passes the acid 3 test! -
safari 4's wmv video streaming is far better than in firefox...
however, i still feel that FF loads pages faster..
this is why i still use FF
is there anything similar do adblock for safari? -
Try using it with Mac Messenger

I have to be honest, I hate Firefox, it's just an ugly mess on Mac OS X. I used to keep it around for when Safari didn't work on certain sites. Now Safari 4 works on every site I used to have trouble with and it's never crashed on either my iMac or my Macbook Air. Firefox just looks out of place, the interface is hideous, it doesn't work trying to mimic Safari.
Safari 4 problem.
