well, i don't have a notebook, but i figured someone on here might be able to help me with a little software problem. I have an older (powerpc) mac mini with all the most recent updates (10.4.11, safari 3, QT 7.3, etc.) but for the past few weeks, anytime i went to youtube, or a site that had any flash media (myspace, bassplayer.tv, etc.) i just get the Q? symbol and nothing really works. For a while i could just quit safari and open it back up, and after a few tries of that it would be fine, but that is of course not a permanent fix. I have tried all the fixes i have come across on the different forums (uninstalling and reinstalling all third-party stuff like Flip4mac, perian, etc.), installing newest version of flash player, tricks with the quicktime plugin.webplugin, or whatever they were, but so far no luck. Oh, and i created a second account to see if the problem was there, and it was not, so it's something on my user profile, but i don't know what. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried using another browser (such as Firefox, Camino, Opera, etc.) and seeing if the same happens?

Also, try resetting Safari and Emptying your cache. Its both under Safari on the Menu Bar.

you could maybe check software updates. sometimes there is a fix in an update that you don't yet have.
i just found last night that there was a java update available, for me anyway.

Hey guys, The Dark Tiger(lol, funny name) is the guy who introduced me to Macs a few years ago. This isn't a simple solution, as we've been searching for answers for a while now.

I just thought of something, DT, did you try changing the default internet movie player? I'm not on my Mac right now, but if I remember correctly, there's an option either in QT or Safari to set your internet media player defaults.

Go to System Preferences > QuickTime > Advanced. Do you have the "Enable Flash" box checked? If so, uncheck that. Also try installing the QuickTime 7.3.1 Update. It should appear in Apple Software Update, otherwise HERE is the download link for Tiger users. It looks like Apple has removed Flash support completely with this QT update (I have 7.3.1 installed and no longer see the option for Flash playback in the QT preferences anywhere, not even in the MIME Settings). Hopefully the update will resolve your issues.

well, i made the newest update, with no affect (on the problem) i did however uncheck all streaming options in quicktime (which in afterthought is kinda obvious, but whatever) and that, *so far* seems to have worked. BTW you guys rock- i made this same post over on mac-forums and did not get one single response from over 30 views- lame!
