Hi, my sisters Macbook Pro has two issues. One is that the screen displays artefacts in purple or green when the screen is tilted at certain angles and the other is that the cd drive has become unresponsive, won't accept, read or eject cd's. I'm reasonable handy with PC issues but I'm not familiar with Apples. The first issue might be that the LCD connection to the motherboard is messed up and needs replacing, does anyone else think that sounds right? Is the connection replaceable, is it possible to get a new ribbon cable or whatever for it?

As for the drive issue, looks like its shot. Is that replacable? Is there a guide for taking apart a MBP that I could use and is there anywhere I could get a new drive for it?

Thanks very much for your help.

It sounds like it could be a bad motherboard. Could you post pictures of the artifacts?

Do you mean the power adaptor? Anyways, I believe the issue also exists on battery power.

It looks like the video card went bad. Is it the Macbook Pro 15 with Nvidia 8600m? If so, ya those cards have lots of problems. Other wise its the motherboard. There is a SMALL chance it is the lcd cable, but those are a huge pain to replace. I had a Macbook Pro 15 once. I paid $400 it had a broken screen. It was stolen. Cops came and got it so I lost out. Anyway before they took it, I tried to replace the lcd and it was a pain, and I ended up breaking $100 in parts.

Wow, that sucks. Sorry to hear that. I thought it might just be the cable since it only messes up when the screen is in certain positions, leading me to believe that it might just be the cable isn't connecting right. I once had a PC when the video card went bad and the screen had lines no matter what you did. This isn't like that.

Almost defiantly the cable, if its only messes up in certain positions. But it will take an hour to replace.

Here's a guide: 15 Inch Macbook Pro Repair Guide

Here's the link to several screen replacement guides: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/mac-repair.php
Just select your model. The cable is behind the screen, these should help.

This one looks good to: http://www.screentekinc.com/lcd-removal-instructions_en,macbookpro,diagram1.shtml

Thanks very much for your help. I'll take a look at those. Any thoughts on the drive issue?
