Hey guys, I recently went on vacation and I tried gaming a bit on my base 2011 MBA, and when I tried playing League of Legends, it did not run as well as I had hoped. So I was thinking about selling my MBA for either an MSI 16F2-012 or a Sager Np8131 or NP8151.

How much could I sell my Macbook for?

    What is your guys opinions?

egpu is possible on a mba if it has a sandy bridge processor. runs some games pretty well, with the same caveats as a normal egpu.

Too much hassle, and an eGPU defeats the purpose of gaming on the go.

    11 or 13 inch? AppleCare?

If you are already in the apple ecosystem, why don't you just go to the macbook pro?

Is the MacBook Pro that much better at gaming?

    Also it's a 13" MacBook Air, late 2011 core i5.

    yes, of course they are.

    dedicated GPU vs. integrated graphics.

I'm surprised LoL could run on integrated graphics at all. with a dedicated GPU, you'd have native resolution at max settings.

The MacBook Pro that I could buy after I sold my air would just be the base one, with the HD 3000 and the 2.4ghz MacBook pro.

It still had the 3000, would I expect very much more performance?
And my air has an ssd.

depends on your usage. and for gaming it will be very small, except on cpu bound games

Owning both, I wouldn't expect it. In fact, due to the lack of an SSD on the base MBP, you're looking at a downgrade in performance. Sure the CPU is faster, but your hard drive will become a bottleneck in the old CPUs place.

For all the hassle involved in selling the old one and buying the new one, I don't think it is worth it. If you were going for the 15" model with the quad core and dGPU, then hell yes.

So what would your guys' opinions be on selling it and buying say a Sager NP8131 or NP8151? Or a P150HM

What do those go for? Are they that much cheaper than $1700?

Why did you get an air if your main thing is gaming?

If your main thing is not gaming, dont get a heavy gaming laptop.

I can't really comment on those, never used any of them. The closest thing to a gaming laptop I've owned/used is the W520 which is in line with the MBP 15" in terms of price.

I would do it. however I would still wait for the models to really arrive, they are going to come with better gpus, and since the 7970m is likely going to be based on the 6850, its one hell of an improvement. Since it beats the 6970.

And right now only some resellers are offering some gpus, and to get a 560m its just plain worth it, the 560m is based on the gts 450, which was the 460m, nvidia just rebadged and gave a slight bump in clocks. So get a 3 year tech? nope, just wait a bit

If you can get a legit copy of Server 2008 R2, it supports remote desktop fx. You could remote into your desktop from anywhere and play games. From what I've seen, it works pretty well.

    Just an idea.
