I really miss just having one solid machine. Right now I have a desktop and a laptop both Vista Based. I have nothing against windows, but my main motive to have windows installed was because I was a gamer who had fun building custom machines. Currently I do not enjoy gaming nearly as much as I used to. Don't get me wrong, TF2, HL2, WoW, and a few others are just some of the games I play with all run perfectly fine on a 8600GT. Also the fun from building my own custom desktops and O/Cing them is just not the same anymore. Currently the hardware in the MBP's are fast enough to do everything I want to do and more. I am will not abandon Windows because lets face it, in the I.T. industry it is still the standard. But I am looking for change, consolidation from 2 to 1. What do you guys think?

Vengance, Go for it. I used be a gamer, serious system builder and had XPS1330 for about a week. But just like you, I wanted to get one solid machine. So I sold my 5 month old desktop and 27inch dell monitor on Tuesday, purchased MBP yesterday. I am very very happy about the purchase! MBP is SOLID machine! Now once my new receive my HDTV set, I don't have to watch HD Movies in 27inch Dell monitor :D

nice. I am seriously thinking about it. Just looking for opinions. If I sell the two, I should have no problems funding a MBP purchase.

I still got my XPS Gen 2 dell system... After paying 3600$ for it.. It's hard to sell even since I just hit my 3 year anniversary with it due to it's cost. But switching to a Mac you likely won't regret it.

I think its a good idea...the MacBook Pro is good hardware, and the ability to run two OSes is great. You get to experience OS X while you don't have to worry about having no Windows when you need it (for business or whatever). Definitely go to the Apple Store to try it out!

I was in the same exact boat nearly two years ago. I went with the MBP and never looked back. In fact, now that I don't game too much anymore I don't even use my Windows partition. I would say go for it.

When you say "One solid system", what do you mean by that? I mean personally if you just want the Mac OS just to have it I think that is a bit silly. I know that some of my friends actually need the Mac OS because of some Mac only programs they work with. If you do not have any Mac Only programs you need I wouldn't sell your laptop and desktop at the same time.

One thing that annoys me a lot about the MBP is that they get very hot on your lap because basically the laptop is a heatsink. I would think about it before giving up a perfectly good laptop and I assume a perfectly good desktop.

Don't get me wrong, it is a good laptop, but the laptop and the desktop you have are both pretty "solid" in my opinion.

Well Its more for consolidation more then anything else. I just want one machine that can handle my needs. I am still thinking about this one. For sure my Laptop is going. No reason to have that much power in a mobile platform when my desktop has [email protected], 4GB Ram, 8800GTS G92 512MB, and about 1TB of HD space. MAC OSX intrigues me. I may try a hackintosh for a bit to see if I really like the OS before I buy a real one. Thanks everyone for the advice. :)
