    Okay, first off, this is NOT a machine that was sent by Apple (obviously). This is a laptop that was sent back to us from a user that worked in France. She could stand to use a lesson or two in the art of packaging

    The packages that my mother-in-law sends from Brasil are all like that - in her case, she does it so we'll know if someone has been into/tampering with the package. Perhaps a similar reason in the case of your user?
