Should I get a new mac? Or keep the old one and replace hard drive or get an external.

I have a Macbook that was purchased in 2006.

I am wondering if I should get a new mac. Either the powerbook or the same thing, new model.

The Video Camera works sometimes not always, battery life poor, and general external wear and tear.
Also I guess the benefit of getting a new laptop would be new iLife and software. Also the harddrive
on my current laptop (only 50ishGB) is nearly full. I was thinking of just replacing the hard drive with a new, bigger one. Or an external hard drive.

Money is not really too much of a concern, but I don't want to make a bad decision if I could wait for the mac to get better or something? My parents will pay for all of it. I will be a freshman in college in the fall and will be using this for basic word documents, internet surfing, but also photo and video editing (adobe suites, iMovie).

    Any tips would be appreciated

If money isn't really a concern and you're going to be using iMovie/Adobe Creative Suite.... then now is a good time to upgrade. This is the Gen2 Unibody that's out now, and would be a really nice upgrade.
