I found a seller on eBay with a stock of new-in-box Mac Book Pro's and the deal looks pretty sweet. Here are the specs:
2009 Unibody MBP 15"
Core 2 Duo 2.53GHZ
8GB RAM
500GB HDD @ 7200RPM
Glossy Screen
3 - years of Apple Care Warranty
$200 Bing.com Rebate (If purchased through Bing's eBay portal page)
Price: $2,139 w/free shipping (before Bing rebate)
Final cost would technically be: $1939
I want a new laptop now but if waiting for the refresh makes better sense then I can. What do you think? What will the resale be for this laptop come September/October?
-

The upcoming refresh is most likely going to be much bigger than the refresh that comes in fall(if any) as history has shown that the updates that occur in the beginning of the year are more significant than those later in the year. So I would advise that you wait for the upcoming refresh which is coming up soon. And even if you happened to buy that macbook now it would decrease in price a good bit when the refreshed models come out.
-
I would suggest you to keep your money. You could hold on with your current laptop for the time being. The update is supposed to be big.
-
I am considering going back to Mac after leaving for windows more than 10 years ago. Any idea when the hardware update is suppose to happen?
-
There was a rumor that it would be released last Tuesday but no new update till now.

I am an IT Professional and I my tens years in this industry has always revolved around Microsoft/Windows. I have always used PCs with Windows Operating Systems. However, when it comes to pure multimedia, graphics, intuitiveness, presentation, and enjoyment, I just feel that a Mac is the way to go. Besides, you can use VMware Fusion to run any other OS you need to run. I am a virtulization engineer and I have been working a lot with Linux for the past year. I basically want a laptop that can be everything I want it to be, while still yielding great battery life and looking good while doing it.
I recently canceled an order for a new Dell Studio XPS 16 with the WORKS because I want to wait out the Macbook refresh; my peace of mind wants me to wait. -

I am so close to pulling the trigger on a W510, but I know I will be unhappy if a new MBP comes out within a month or two of buying it. -
the fact that you're asking if you should wait means that you have the ability to wait.
like most will say, if you don't need a new computer right now...wait until you do. at very least, wait until the March refresh is released. Prices on old machines will plummet. And new hardware will provide a tasty option. -
wait for it... get on the same boat as me!
-
Yup. If you can, wait.
My $.02 -
What exactly might we be getting with the refresh?
-
-
-
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
It's worth waiting just for the transition from Core 2 to i5. The other goodies are just icing on the cake.
-
So when do we think the next refresh is coming? This month, or the summer?
-
March? I HOPE!
-
Need to buy before March 30 so i can still get my free ipod and printer (both to sell and reduce the cost of my mbp)
That's when the promotion runs out here is Australia -
I need a new model since I learned that my 15" 2007 MBP has the infamous 8600M GPU; a ticking time bomb for failure from what I hear.
-
How soon can we purchase a refreshed MBP after it got announced? WOuld need it by 19th mach ;(
-
I sold my xps 13" and almost pulled a trigger on MacBook Pro, but after reading more and more, I'll be waiting.... I have 6 years old desctop for now
-
If I remember correctly, the day before the new iPods launched was the day that free iPod with Macbooks expired.
Maybe it's the same? -
-
Just got an email alerts about Macbook Pro on sale now on Amazaon.

Best Buy has updated their site and now has the new "i-series" logos on the MBP pages, even though C2D cpu's are still listed in the specs.....
-
-
-
Just go to Best Buy's site and navigate to the apple section......they're on every Macbook save for the white polycarbonate one

so, when do we think the refresh will happen?
-
-
It should happen on a Tuesday. I had my hopes up for today but it didn't happen -
I believe it's after iPad launch in April. I suppose it will come in as introduction to Steam games for Mac ported releases at the same time with the new Core i processors.
-
Man.. seriously im also waiting. Check almost half a million of the forum and God knows when it's gonna be refresh
but anyway im also at the same boat as you guys waiting waiting waiting...

I went to my local MicroCenter and asked the sales person about the refresh. She said that Apple is in the process of working out an agreement with Intel. I'm not sure what this means and if it's true
-
Employees shouldn't know much.. especially at a retail store.
-
Basically, MCP99 from Nv was supposedly going in the MBP with the new i5 or i7. Then Intel said Nvidia has no license for i3/i5/i7 and they all agreed to settle it in court.
That is the same stupidity that destroyed VIA. Just license the tech already NVidia! -
Apple has until the end of the month to get my money.
No refresh = lost sale. I hope they're not really still trying to work out a deal as is being supposed here. -
Apple has until the 23rd for me.. I want to get it before I go on vacation lol
I already ordered my Intel X25-M SSD for the MBP. I'm just waiting on a refresh.. I'm hoping it is the 16th or possibly this Friday, going with the iPad pre-order update on their site. -
As much as I want to buy a laptop right this minute, my gut instinct is that it won't happen until at least a week after the iPad launch. =( After all, why would they risk crowding their sales message and giving customers another product to be interested in? It would only make sense to let the hype die down a bit and then announce a new product.
-
my guess is the same... the announcement about steam seems really interesting, hence i do believe that since as of right now there aren't any good gaming graphics cards in them, so i also expect this to happen after the launch of the ipad... and im pretty sure about a new graphics chip... i wouldnt want to play Left 4 Dead on my 9600m gt... COD4 is choppy enough.

I'm just wondering, replacing the HDD with a SSD and upgrading the RAM won't void the warranty on a MBP right? I'm planning to swap the HDD with a SSD on the new MBP refresh and possibly upgrade the RAM to 4gb if it only comes with 2gb.
Should I get this MBP to hold me over until the refresh this fall?
