I have the stock 320 in my MBP. I almost ordered the Intel SSD that was like $1000...but then I came to my senses and told myself that was crazy.
However, in my old MBP I had the Hitachi 7k200 hard drive, and then was a solid drive. It was definitely faster.
I want to get the Seagate 500 gb 7200.4 drive. Do you guys think I would be able to notice a difference in overall speed compared to my 320?

I don't think you'll notice that much difference, but it would be a bit faster because of the density of the platters. I wouldn't go for it personally, only if you need more space. If you don't need more space but speed, then wait for SSD prices to come down. But incase you choose to upgrade, be sure to check out my guide on how to do it.

Get the $400 intel drive?
-
Yeah I think $400 is pretty good now, considering what it was before. I think he was referring to the 160GB version though, which is currently about $800.

i read somewhere on engadget that the intel ssds tend to become slower with time and this has got something to do with the algorithms written for these drives. Personally, i would advise you to save your money and stick with the drive you have. You can get the 500gb drive only if you'll be needing that additional space.

a few second loading faster definitely not worth money.
-
SSD is definetely great but still not mature. I suggest wait another six months for even better speed and price reduction.
-
Agreed. I think once they get established as mainstream, they will be a lot cheaper and more availability for more GB's.
-
but those 80gb intel ssd look so appealing
they are "cheap" @ ebay!
-
I know!
I am drooling at the mouth for one of those things...
BTW, which one would you get, the M series or the other one?
-
don't know m8
maybe both?
-
Hehe, I'll go with both...
Should I upgrade my HDD?
