I was talking to my brother in law and i could hear the fans speeding up , so i started activity monitor , and it said skype was using 80% cpu and 40 threads what ever that is, I have an T9600 CPU at 2.8Ghz

Hmm, interesting. I have the new Macbook Pro 13" and I was video chatting with my buddy in Aussie over an hour via Skype and my Macbook Pro only warmed up a little, the fans didn't even kick in. Were you using the 9600 GPU?

A fan control program i was using was a little over enthusiastic that accounts for the fan noise, so i have adjusted the settings, but 80% cpu usage is still high for Skype.

God help my little INTEL N270 1.6Ghz in my Netbook it will be killed.

correction* the fans are always on but at a low RPM so they are almost inaudible. check with SMC Fan control

Perhaps, but if the fans are almost inaudible and my Macbook is only luke warm during Skype video chats then it's a moot point.
The OP is talking about high CPU usage and his fans are kicking in high.

And iChat typically runs at 40-50% cpu.

Yeah, video chatting with iChat (the other comp has AIM) usually runs 40-50% cpu. I use SMC to kick the fan up to 3500rpm when I start to chat but it will rev up from time to time. The temp was running about 150F last night during the chat.

i think the newer version of skype (the one with the screen sharing, not sure when it was released) is running a little cooler than before

Runs fine on a netbook for me, and on windows. On mac it takes up a lot more system resources. I assume its because its a poorly optimized port to OS X, as many things tend to be.

On the contrary, your netbook will be able to handle skype video calls just fine in windows.

My brothers Asus n61jq ran like a hot pan all the time so skype most likely did not make it any hotter then it actually was lol .
