After installing Bootcamp and Windows XP Professional, I noticed a much slower boot time/shutting off than usual compared to computers even slower than that of my MBP. I was wondering if anyone had such a problem with this and whether there are any solutions.

most likely not. the macbook pro has to emulate the boot process as far as the bios is concerned. just expect it to take longer.

I would expect that, but the OS is booting off another partition separate from that of Mac OS X, so such things should not really occur.
Also, is there a way to lock the Icons on the desktop, so they will line up automatically? I have to drag the icons and line them up as closely as possible, but in Windows they automatically line up. It's one of those OCD things. lol -

emulation of the bios has nothing to do with the partition you are booting from.
your BIOS (on a normal pc) is stored on flash memory on your motherboard. the macbook pro has no bios. it uses EFI for booting and has a bios emulation layer for compatibility.
it doesn't matter where the hard drive or partition you are booting from happens to reside.
such things really are going to occur. -
knp, To line up icons automatically in OSX make the Finder active (you can just click on the Desktop) and select View --> Show View Options (or press Open-Apple + J) and Check Snap to grid. Or you can Right-Click the Desktop and select Show View Options. Is that what you were trying to do?
