I have a time machine backup of my macbook, can I update to snow leopard, and restore everything from the backup? I have a bootcamp partition if that makes a difference![]()
Please don't call me a noob, I just haven't found an answer to my question on google![]()

You should be able to use Migration assistant and restore your files however SL won't be out until later this year, is this important to know about right now?
-
No, but I saw an article about it, and it has been bugging me
Thanks for the reply.

1- I'm sure you're not the only person using Time Machine, so I would think Apple would have some contingency for this.
2- Nobody on this chat has a known functional crystal ball. The future has yet to be written. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
I thought that TM isn't able to directly restore/backup the bootcamp partitions?

when I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard,I haven't loose my files oi programs!
-
Meh no big deal for me, I only have 1 game installed on it.

i dont understand.. you want to upgrade to Snow Leopard... and if you dont like it restore back to the old version of the OS?
if you just wanna upgrade.. you shouldnt have to back up anything, it should leave all your installed programs intact... -
So Snow leopard is like a system update on a disk basically? It doesn't completly remove leopard and install snow leopard?
-
It's most likely going to be a full disk install, since it incorporates so many different internal features that a firmware/update won't allow, such as Grand Central, OpenGL, etc. I'd back up all of my data, and install SL, and load them. If that doesn't work, you always have to backed-up data to fall back on.

previous upgrades of OSX gives you the options of doing an upgrade, leaving everything intact... or doing an archive and install, throwing all the contents of the old install into a folder you can get to later and doing a fresh install (the way i do full OS upgrades)... or doing a total wipe everything out and install
