With the gold master release and the os already out on the torrents . Now with gizmodo posting the retail box as well, should we be looking for a sep first week release?

Don't count on it. There's no reason for Apple to jump ahead and not stick with their original intended release date as it will still be released before Windows 7 (which is also available on Torrents and packaging has been leaked as well).
-
oh god!!! when will they be releasing the bootcamp drivers update. i cant wait to get my hands on these.
-
When was the intended release date? They said September. So I'd say second Tuesday of September.
-
Actually September 22nd is sticking out in my mind (which is also a Tuesday).

So can you get an upgrade or will you have to do a total hdd wipe?
-
When I inquired about the Snow Leopard in the bookstore, the tech told me that it will be like and "upgrade", leaving all the programs and the data intact.
-
I can confirm that it does an upgrade and keeps all your existing programs and settings intact.
-
Will we be able to do a clean install, instead of an upgrade, if we so choose?
-
I can't see Apple designing an OS that only allows you to do an Upgrade. This isn't Microsoft we're talking about here!
-
Yeah, I also recall getting the Leopard disks thrown in the box where Tiger was pre-installed and I remember doing a clean install using those. Hopefully it's the same this time around. I just prefer clean installs than upgrade.
-
So would you just backup everything via Time Machine and do a clean install then restore using Time machine? Stupid question, sorry, but I'm new to Macs and backing up in general.
-
no... old systems you could do like a archive and install, it would do a clean install but put all the old install in a folder you could still access...
In Snow Leopard they have changed install options around, so I'm not really sure how its going to work, but you can just upgrade Leopard to Snow Leopard with everything intact... supposedly they've worked hard to make the upgrading much better so clean installs aren't necessary.
I have 3 machines I did a normal upgrade from Tiger to Leopard, without clean installing, and they've always run leopard perfectly, no issues.... so some people just do it for a peace of mind, knowing its "from scratch" and clean... -
Snow no longer offers Archive and Install or erase and install options anymore. The biggest change is the incompatibiliy check during the installation.
-
i heard from a good friend that it would be the 28th.
I installed the torrent 10.6 and it is a good deal faster than 10.5.8 -
Not a stupid question at all. Thanks to someone on this forum, I was able to clean install Leopard and then use a Time Machine backup/image (from an external HD), via Migration Assistant, to restore apps/settings/documents etc... and it worked brilliantly. That's what I plan on doing when Snow Leopard arrives, if such an option is still made available of course.
-
I have done this exact thing a couple of times. It works without hitch.
Snow leopard release imminent?
