I was leaving the lab, getting into my car while I was taking my backpack off my shoulders... and Whooopps! It sliped and... BAM.
So I get home to see if it still worked and if there was any damage. Only a small, but yet sizable dent on the corner, next to the magsafe connector. It's roughly about the thickness of that part and almost the same witdth as the magsafe connector. So it's at the very end.
Everything else is fine and still works.
But yeah, don't buy a Slappa backpack! The thick plastic protector did crap to protect my laptop! It aparantly was able to slide to one side and still hit the ground.
Don't buy slappa! Needless to say, I'll be calling them for a refund and buying a better backpack that can properly cradle a laptop. I'll also have to call apple care to see about getting that fixed when I send it in to get other things fixed.
Anyone know how much that may cost to fix/replace the outside case?

Ouch. I feel for you man. Hate to see any beautiful notebook get a ding. Kind of gives you a sick feeling in the pit of you're stomach, doesn't it? Don't know how much it would cost to repair the case, but if you call them I'm sure they can give you an answer in short order. The rep got me a figure very quickly when I wrecked the keyboard on my iBook a couple of years ago. But brace yourself, because I'm sure it won't be cheap.
-
yeah, well, at least if it's not cheap, it's not a major problem. But damnit!
It would have been fine in a laptop case that ... worked properly and was well designed. I'm just glad it's not worse. -
Darn... that's painful to hear. It's still covered under warranty, right?
I use one of those hand-held bags when I go home from school. Other than that I don't really lug my 17" around. -
I use a sleeve, inside a notebook compartment with a velcro closure, inside a padded American Tourister messenger bag with a zipper. No way my notebook is ever gonna fall out of that contraption, but it takes me a couple of minutes to get it out, lol.

=( I just shove my thinkpad into an old tshirt that has the holes sewn shut and pop it into my backpack... Maybe I should protect it a little better.

Chances are Apple will not cover this because its not considered a manufacturers defect.
for example last year on the forum we had a member who was walking in a car parking garage near the exit and slipped on some ice, it did a deal of damage to his Powerbook, however Apple refused to repair it because it was listed under Abuse/Accident which Apple isn't responsible for, however he might get lucky and they'll fix it, that don't happen often though. -
Accidental damage voids the warranty, sadly... so as hollownail said, be very careful when you buy a notebook bag. And of course don't drop your notebooks at all if possible ;P

Yup, well, I'm thinking they need to replace the bottom part becasue it does ahve a defect. I have that gap on the front between the metal part of hte acse and the plastic part thats between the case and the palm rest area.
Well, we'll see how it goes when I call htem tomorrow. -
ouch... hurts... take care dude!
-
oh say it ain't so dude -
Lets see some pics of the damage.
-
yeah next time youll put in a pair of undies
also tough luck dude hope it gets well soon -
Well, take it on the bright side: you just had a cosmetical scratch, it might not be even working...
-
I just spilled milk ALL OVER my mousepad and clicker...It's fine right now so I shouldn't have to worry about it, right?
-
The Brenthaven case with built in sleeve seems to have great protection and it has a shoulder strap; I bought it right in the local Apple store. Love it. I would not repair the ding though for a while; I would wait for something internal to go wrong and then would see about a total repair cost at the local Apple store. Wouldn't hurt to drop buy the local store and ask about the ding repair cost though.

eeeekk!!! thats sucks! sorry to hear that. oh dear... at such a young age (the macbook pro).. tsk tsk tsk.

Well, my MBP has a ton of problems. Not sure what they are, but it locks up a lot. It stutters... Detects ghost monitors when it comes out of sleep.
Plus other problems as well, I just don't have time to send it in.
So I dropped my MBP...
