even though you're not supposed to? ;)

Even a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qGbOC26Wko even though you can clearly see the author's cable is already weakend.

I've never pulled my MagSafe connector out by the cable. I knew from the start, just by feeling the cable, that it would fray if pulled out like that. I was surprised by the number of people who do this though. I would have thought it would be common sense to not pull the cable.

They should have made the connection like the ipod, where you NEED to press in both buttons on either side of the plug and pull out, that way it will ensure that you don't pull on the cable...

But then again... if someone trips past the cable, it'll break the connector...
 it's a lose lose situation!...

One tip is to use electrical tape and wrap it around the part where the cable connects to the connector, that way it reinforces the connection so people can just pull off by the cable and it won't wear away and show wires.

I don't see why people want to pull it by the cable. No cable should ever be pulled out that way anyway.. it's not that difficult to pull it out properly by the head! :)

It's the same with any electrical appliances with cords. You should never pull it out by the cable. Didn't we all learn that in school? Apparently not.

I find it more natural and easy to just pull up on the connector and its magnet weakens right away to pull it right out. Works well enough with no cord pulling.

Yeah pulling ANY electrical cable is a bad idea, since you're going to eventually break it. It's an especially bad idea when said cable costs $100, lol. Just grab the plastic head and pull up or down to remove it at an angle.

@TonyZ: The ENTIRE point of the MagSafe is so it pops out if someone pulls on the cable by mistake or trips on the wire so that the stress placed on the cable isn't as bad as it would be if it was locked deep in place, and there's no chance pulling on the cable will take your Mac to the ground too.

Securing the cable would only make things uterly worse because if someone trips on it or pulls by accident the cable won't pop out, which means it takes the full stress of that pull and will break much faster, or take your computer to the ground.

No, the MagSafe was designed so that it isn't held on as tightly as most notebook power cords, so when someone trips over the cord, it just snaps off instead of dragging your notebook along :).

I usually pull it nicely from the tip of the cord.

I fully admit I had no idea about the tilt up/tilt down on the cable. That works really well. I'm dumb. :)

Honestly I lightly pull up/down on the cord to get it off on an angle. Very little stress. I know it's not "proper" but I'll deal with it.
