having a few strange problems with this in Vista Ultimate.
1. vista thinks my computer is a dell in the opening screen that comes up??
2. when i turn the computer on it automatically boots into windows, even if the last shut down i did was in OS X.
3. i get a lot of problems in white text on a black background when windows is starting up, it says some stuff about fdisk so i think windows might be trying to access my os x partition but obviously cant anyway, does anyone know how to fix this?
Thank you guys

1) Did you use a Dell OEM disc? If its not a Dell OEM, I have no idea why that would happen.
2) You probably set Windows to be the "default OS". You can change that with this method:
In Mac OS X, go to System Preferences > Click Startup Disk > Select the startup disk with the operating system you want to use by default.
3) I have no idea about this one. -
ahhahah DELL... its as big as microsoft windows itself!

)
No clue about #3 either. Offhand, the combination of #1 and #3 makes me agree with Sam and suspect that you simply have an old Dell-modified OEM version of Windows XP (back in the day, Dell used to modify their OEM disks - I don't think they do that much anymore though). -
Those are suspicious problems
.
The only Apple-related issue, #2, can also be found by reading some Apple documents:
Boot Camp Public Beta
Boot Camp Beta 1.4 Setup & Installation Guide (PDF)
Boot Camp Beta: Requirements, Installation, and Frequently Asked Questions
The other two problems are Windows-specific.
To get rid of the annoying boot messages, you can download EasyBCD 1.6 here. Install, run, click the "Manage Bootloader" tab and then under "Bootloader Installation Options" make sure "Reinstall the Vista Bootloader" is selected and finally click the "Write MBR" button. Instantly done. Restart your computer into Vista (if you changed the default OS, just hold Option during the restart to select an OS) - there will not be anymore boot messages. Warning: this will also deactivate Windows!
As for the Dell Logo:
- Browse to \Windows\System32\oobe\ and remove all image files that have Dell in the filename.
- Next, select Start --> Run and type "regedit" (without quotations) and press Return.
- Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OEMInformation\ and remove all keys that reference Dell information.
- Also browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winsat\WindowsExperienceIndexOemInfo\ and remove all dell keys.
- Reboot into Vista once again and the Dell Logo will be gone!
Alternatively, there is an OEM Logo AutoPatch. I have not tried this, use at your own risk. -
if i do that how do i reactivate windows?
thanks for the very detailed answers -
