Someone want to recommend a decent 15.4" hard sleeve?

Since (at least my) MBP has a weak centre so any pressure means the keyboard touches the screen = eugh. I had bought a Speck case that basically just went over the laptop by clasping on but it broke because... it sucks.

My friends got a bag/sleeve thing with his XPS 1530 that I think would fit the bill, but I'm not getting anything remotely similar on Ebay. They're all... foam-like materials and I'm looking for something similar to the one my friend has, maybe with even harder material. Cleaning the screen of dust is one thing, but oil is another, and I'm paranoid that I'm going to scratch the screen one of these days.

Oh, and for similar reasons, where can I find a *large* microfibre cloth to leave between the screen and the keyboard when I close the thing? That would be nice too.

@a4: That's a bit... expensive. I have a bag anyway. I just need something simple to solve the keyboard <-> screen issue.

I use an Allsop 29592 TravelSmart Mouse Pad. According to the blurb on Future Shop's web site the pad "has a screen cushion that helps prevent screen damage and key "burn" on screen. It is slim enough to travel and fit inside your laptop as a microfibre mouse pad. It's wide pad helps mouse move easier, especially for wide screen laptops and the microfibre surface and natural rubber base ensures non-slip." They even have a photo of it in use (with a note " Laptop Sold Separately".)"

It doesn't cover the entire screen, but it's the exact width of the MBP keyboard.

    It's $8.99 at BestBuy.

I wouldn't be too eager to do that. Mouse pads end up getting a lot of dust and grime on it because you put it on the desk and you have your hand in contact with it almost all the time. This can cause your screen to become dirty and may even scratch it in the long run. I would recommend you keep a cloth that you use SOLELY for the screen itself, this way it will definitely stay cleaner longer and will reduce the risk of dirtying or scratching the screen.

If I could find a cloth of the right material big enough to cover the keyboard + the trackpad, I would do so. Unfortunately, no dice so far.

Perhaps you misread my earlier post. The Allsop Travelsmart Mouse Pad is a microfiber cloth which is just the rights size to cover the trackpad and keyboard of a MBP and is designed to protect the screen from damage when the lid is closed. As has been pointed out, there is a risk that dirt could be transferred to the screen if you use it as a mouse pad (as I do), but if you keep it clean and use it only as a screen protector you'll be fine.

The risk of transferring dirt onto the screen exists whatever form of protection you use, but I've found that visible dirt falls right off when you give the thing a shake. As for nano dirt, I often use my MBP in very unfavorable environments so regular screen cleaning is part of my routine.

I assumed it was more than just a cloth, being named as a mouse pad and such. So you are saying that it's just a large cloth thin enough to be folded?

It seems to be microfiber one on one side laminated to a very thin piece of rubber on the other. Not much heavier than denim cloth with similar flexibility. Perhaps they erred in calling it a mouse "pad", although it certainly functions well as one if you find yourself trying to work with an optical mouse on a glossy / mirrored surface.

It seems that it was designed to be dual purpose, insofar as it is exactly the same size as the MBP keyboard and is advertised as a combination mouse-pad / screen protector. As has been noted, there is a risk of transferring dirt to the screen if you use it as a mouse pad, although I not had any such problems and you could use it solely as a screen protector so that it would always be clean.

I suppose you could get a large chamois from any auto-detailing store and use it as a layer between the keyboard and screen when you close it. Probably have to cut it to size though.

Try to find a large microfibre cloth too.. not unlike those they give at glasses stores, only larger.

I've been using the Speck hard case (clear and black) for six months and I love it! I'm a college professor and I use and abuse my MBP everyday with no problems.
