For a while now, there's been a weird blank spot on Exposé taking up room that does absolutely nothing. I don't really know how to explain it so here are some screenshots:

This is with the cursor hovering over the empty space:

This is when I first pull up Exposé and how it always is when not "highlighted":

    One window open:

Does anyone have any idea what this is? Space on Exposé is so precious since they changed the format of it with Snow Leopard, so I don't want to be wasting valuable real estate with nothing.

This happens with me frequently in Snow Leopard. Especially if I close a window (or application) then directly arrange my windows with Exposé, I get the same empty space. If I hover the mouse on it, it will be all in blue (like your first image).

it might happen on Snow Leopard but it has to be a 3rd party app, or very specific setting causing it. I cannot reproduce it on 4 different 10.6 macs I've tried, including the one I use many hours every day.

The only 3 apps I have perpetually running (that I know of) are Caffeine, Dropbox, and Little Snitch.

Does anyone have any experience with these with 10.6?

    Thanks :)

edit: I'll try quitting all the programs (hard because they're background programs) and get back to you

thats all you know are running for sure... some are tricky and hide easy....

with Caffeine and Dropbox running I don't get it... so possibly something with Little Snitch, or something else thats hiding out and not obvious.... or something you installed one time that made some modifications it didn't unmake.

It might be an older version of one of the programs you have running. I assume you have upgraded from 10.5.8 to 10.6 and not a clean install? It could be that the program you have running that's causing that issue is not fully compatible with Snow Leopard. I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. Try booting up your system with as little as possible and see if Expose still does that.

I'm assuming when you do Apple+tab(or command+tab for the new macs), that only the programs you're running show up?

Also, this happens when you restart your computer correct?
You can check your Login items to see if another program is loading up when you login, that may be that window.

Lastly, what does happen when you click on it? Normally the program name will show up in the title bar when you click on it.

[edit] Quick google search reveals that it is Chrome that should be causing the problem. Check out the thread here in the bug listing for Chrome. You also have chrome running in all the screenshots, so yea.

It looks like it's been fixed in the latest release, you can try Chromium, as it should have the fix in it, or wait till they release a new version. [/edit]

Haha, woww I just started quoting/answering all the posters and yours answering all the questions. I should've read your whole post and I would've noticed the Google Chrome thing.

    Thanks!

I'll update it when they release. (the dev version has worse problems than this...)

No problem. Just as an aside, I've been running chromium for a while now, and it is fairly stable as a browser. I just update every few days to the latest build to be safe.
