Hi, I am sure this question has probably been asked before, so I will keep this short. I am about to switch and buy a mbp (15"). Right now, I am a frequent traveller but I will settle down once I graduate in half a year's time, by then i will most probably switch to a desktop, ie an imac. I will take advantage of dual boot and will play the lastest games.

So the question is: should i spend that extra few hundred dollars on the expensive version or will the cheaper one do just as well? I do not know much about graphics cards but I know 256 is better than 128.

Thanks for the help in advance.

if you are going to play the latest of the games out there... buy the expensive one. at least you can game on your lappy wit no problems.

or buy the inexpensive one... that will limit you game play and will give you more time to settle for a while, have a vacation and rest, after graduation.

What games are you lokoing at playing?
The current model can play any game out there right now. Albeit not all of them at high settings (Oblivion and such really need SLI for that).
I'd say get the normal one. BTW, the imac video card isn't upgradable, so it would only be good for modern games for about 2 years, if that.
I'd go with the Mac Pro if you wanted to do gaming. At least you can upgrade the video card in it.

Well, the extra VRAM does not add a ton of performance. But the faster processor may help a little. If you can afford it get it. If not, get the lower version and then save that extra cash for when you settle down so you can get a Mac Pro, or a 24" iMac.

Not without voiding the warranty though. But if you don't care about that, then it might be possible - haven't seen the insides of the 24" yet so can't say for sure.
