Just a quick question on Fusion, since I am strongly considering a MB or MBP for my next laptop: how quick/responsive is Office 2007 through VMware Fusion? I need compatibility with this due to work and need it to run well.

I have been using VMware with Ubuntu on my Dell and the speed of a virtualized XP system with Office 2007 is absolute crap, so I really would love some personal insight on this. :)

I was running an XP VM with Office 2007 installe with just 512MB RAM assigned to the VM and it ran just fine both in Unity and non-unity modes. That was having Outlook open permenantly and a couple of Word documents usually open too.

    Runs fine.

I use Fusion to run Office 2007 under Vista on a MBP with 4GB ram, 2GB assigned to Vista.

It kinda runs like poo at first, but after it gets good and loaded, it works pretty much fast enough.

on xp you should be fine with 2 GB of ram and 512 set aside for windows. still, 1 GB would be better, but 512 is enough.

vista needs more like 2 GB... maybe you could get away with 1-1.5...

so for vista, you should definitely upgrade to 4GB of ram and set half to windows.

for xp, you should STILL upgrade to 4GB of ram and set 1GB to windows.

if you can't upgrade right now, use xp and set 512MB to windows.
