I love the fact this thing has a spillproof keyboard. I'm sitting at a McDonalds, enjoying the free WIFI, and I just spilt a half a cup of coke on the keyboard. Wiped it clean and all is well.
Just thought I'd share.

MacBooks have spill proof keyboards? Didn't know that. That's sweet, though.
I've had the same experience with my ThinkPad. Twice, actually; just with coffee, not coke.
-
do they have spill proof keyboards?
-
I don't think that they have spillproof key. ...they even have a water sensor that tells "warranty people" that you have spilled something on it.
-
Hey, even if it's not "spillproof" it resisted this spill. I'm happy.
-
the keyboard is spillproof only in the fact that theren't aren't really gaps between keys and it is a solid design. also, there is quite a bit of protection in the actual backing of the keyboard as well.
it is possible that something could happen later on with the machine, as coke is syrup and carbonated water. I would make sure to let the machine really dry out if it seems like the liquid made its way underneith the keys, which it definitely could.
also I recommend not using the computer at McDonalds at least not while your eating. -
I do not think Apple notebooks have spill-resistant keyboards. Apple will now void your warranty should anything malfunction in your notebook. There is a moisture paper in the notebook to help the "morons" void your warranty. Apple is anal and unforgiving like that.
-
actually i've heard about some attempts to create a keyboard with a system of flumes (or how to call it), so that the liquid spills away under the laptop, so that it won't do any harm. but i cannot find which company it was now...
-
how is that unforgiving? and there is no guarantee a warranty will be voided, were you their watching the liquid fall on the computer? it is all up to the discretion of people, not the computer. that is if anything happens in the first place.
I just think you took spilling a soft drink on your multi-thousand dollar computer much to lightly, in any situation, you should be banging your head against the table if you spilt a very sugary syrupy soft drink on a very expensive gadget, and doing whatever you can to make sure it won't cause a problem. -
Well, its already on the way back to the shop anyway, as it has a problem with the screen. I've had it dry out this afternoon, and all seems well, no stickyness or anything to note.
-
panasonic has water resistant designs. Dell has had some along with Lenovo, and even some old Compaq designs. I think only Panasonic is currently making them, though I have heard some Lenovo's are water resistant.
Complete water proof notebooks are made by terralogic, Stealth, and NEC. -
1)morons?
2)as unforgiving as any other company that doesn't offer accidental protection/ -
This is why, if I get a MacBook next summer (though, still kinda leaning towards another ThinkPad), I'll be getting it at my Best Buy. They have accidental coverage options, whereas Apple just has that "extended manufacturers warranty" aka Apple Care.
-
Indeed. I've used my Toughbook in the rain. That thing is fantastic.
I have the special "waterproof" keyboard though (I have one for all three of my CF-28's), which is completely rubber encased. The other keyboards are just water resistant. -
I would disagree, pacmandelight. If the spilled coffee or whatever is the cause of the problem, I'm sure they would void it since its not covered, but most Apple technicians and customer service representatives are very good about these things; if the screen fails, they're not going to blame it on a scratched trackpad.

My girlfriends cat spilled milk on her 2006 macbook and the logic board went to hell. had to buy a new one.
-
Pretty much many notebooks above $1k have spill-proof keyboards these days. However, I've never spilled a drink on my keyboard ever in my life so far.
I'm really careful with my notebooks. -
I dont think I would test to see if anyones new overpriced macbook really had a spill proof key board.
BTW I absolutely assumed I was the only Lysander in the world. Until right now. -
I would classify those more as spill resistant, not proof.
-
Where in the world did u get this info?
-
Lol a scratched touchpad != a spill on the keyboard. Liquid may well have gotten into the LCD inverter or whatever.
-
Lucky for the new LED based MacBooks, they don't have inverters. Those things also hide out in the LCD half in laptops that do have them.
When I was an Apple tech, I warrantied a ton of stuff that I wasn't supposed to, because in many cases damage to certain components did not relate to damaged other components
Spillproof keyboard saves me
