How long does it normally take Spotlight to index your HDD? I clean installed SL about a week ago, copied over all my apps and files with Migration Assistant, and then used Boot Camp to install 7. Yesterday, Spotlight randomly started indexing, and I left it on over night but it is still indexing. It seems like it's taking an unusually long amount of time.

You don't mention how large your hard drive is and how much of it is used, but assuming you have a pretty average install I'd say you're right, that IS a long time, unless you were using the machine for other tasks at the same time. Maybe just stop Spotlight, reboot, and start Spotlight up again? Also you may want to Repair Permissions first, just in case.

Spotlight is useless, just use quick silver. The little benifites you get from spot lite is not worth it indexing all the time.

To disable spotlight go to System Prefs>Spotlight>Privacy>and drag your harddrive icon from your desktop into it. Also drag any external hard drive.

I have a 160 GB HDD with a 32GB Bootcamp partition. My disk use is as follows:

    Macintosh HD
    Used: 53.45
    Free: 63.43

    Bootcamp
    Used: 20.95
    Free: 10.90

I have tried Quicksilver and I don't really like it. I don't use Spotlight for anything but opening folders or specific files.

Just disable it then. Unless you want it indexing all the time.
