I'm trying to decide what laptop to get and was wondering how Starcraft plays on a MacBook and if anyone thinks that I would be able to play Starcraft II when it comes out.
-
if youre going for a macbook then I suggest that you shoot for the macbook pro with the 8600gt just for futureproofing.
-
I would get a MacBook Pro but its out of my budget. Has anyone had any trouble running Starcraft on OS X and since the Starcraft II graphics look onlly a little more demanding than Warcraft III, I am wondering how that runs on the MacBook also. Those are the only two games I would be playing on it.

Starcraft plays wonderfully! but starcraft II might not do so well, its a integrated card, and those just dont measure up. So like expo said, macbook pro would be your most logical choice.

well given how much longer we have to wait for starcraft II, i would think its logical that the current macbook wont hold up. correct me if i am wrong, but i believe starcraft II wont be out until next august (2008) or sometyhing like htat? thast another year. not counting macbook, even MBP will be overpowered by many other laptop by than. with technology improving at this rate, if starcraft II doesnt pop out within half a year, i dotn think a macbook will have a good chance of going at it.
o, some more spam, according to my frd, blizzard always makes games ahead of its time (requirement wise). -
Apple should at LEAST give the Macbooks a 64mb ATI card by now, it would be a good upgrade and would in no way encroach the Macbook Pro market share.
Anyway, yeah Starcraft will play fine (it is almost a decade old, so it better) but no laptop with integrated graphics will be able to acceptably run current games. -
Starcraft will play fine, but although Starcraft II's requirements will most likely be lower than other new games, I don't see a GMA 950 handling it.
-
I'd wait for the next MacBook version if possible. I bet you they update to a newer integrated graphics chip. SCII will be slightly more demanding than WCIII because it uses true 3D effects. A GMA950 will play it, I'd bet, because Blizzard is great with scaling their games to hardware, but it might not be as pretty as the screenshots.

I betting that SCII will be more demanding that what a macbook can offer at the moment. Even if the possibility that you get to run it on the macbook, it will not be a fun experience. So as other suggested hold on to your money and keep saving till it is closer to the launch date. By that time i'm pretty sure you'll be able to buy a better laptop.

I am guessing WarCraft III in addition to StarCraft would run perfect on a MacBook.
Here are the WarCraft III requirements. It's like a trip down memory lane...I remember when my computer had 4MBs of video memory
Macintosh® OS 9.0 or higher/ Mac OS X 10.1.3. or higher:
* 400 MHz G3 processor
* 128 MB of RAM
* 16 MB ATI Technologies or nVidia chipset 3D video card
* 700 MB HD space
* 4X CD-ROM drive
Recommended:
* 600 MHz processor
* 256 MB of RAM
* 32 MB 3D video card
* DirectX® 8.1 compatible sound card -
Actually if you pay close attention to the videos Starcraft II is a lot more demanding than Warcraft 3, then again Warcraft 3 ran on a Pentium 3, Intel GMA 830 and 512RAM at max settings.
Starcraft was scheduled for a October 07 release, which is 5 months after the announcement and thats the path Blizzard always takes, announce a game and then release it to the public 5 months later, but it got delayed to Feb 08 (I know someone at Blizzard) -

And yet people still ask if their new laptops will be able to run WC3 XD
