Perhaps I'm late to the news but I JUST watched the keynote speech on the 14th, and I clearly saw a cancer patient. I'm surprised though that nobody is mentioning it despite all the talk in regards to the keynote. What did you guys think when you saw Jobs this time?
I hope that he is able to get well and wish him all the best of luck in this world.
P.S. If this is the wrong place for this thread, then my apologies in advance.

you HEARD he is a total a-hole. You havent actually met him. Its a rumour, dont call him a jerk.
-
Maybe he is just looking really skinny?
He could be on some kind of raw food diet or something like that. -
With the kind of income he has he could afford a great diet like that.
-
Well, those all natural organic foods are much more expensive then your average fat inducing fast food diet. So yeah, I guess he has the money for it.
-
Yeah dieting cost money because they are a fad and people fall for it. But looks like Steve is on really great diet there.
-
Hmmm I'm lost, my post wasn't meant to be sarcastic or poke fun at Jobs, but anyways ...

I really want him to live long... at least until i die
(I'm a young man
)
-
please explain?
-
Depends on what is considered young
then Jobs will be very old when you are considered old
We all wanna live longer

He had treatable pancreatic cancer, and had the Whipple Procedure done. As with many people who have the Whipple Procedue, they tend to lose weight.
However, in the long run after modifying his diet, he can regain weight and live a normal lifestyle. With that being said, I don't think he is ever going to look like Steve Wozniak.
-
He had cancer a few years ago though. And the weight loss he's had has been recent (this year). Also, someone from Apple made the statement that Jobs was hit by a common bug or something like that.
The point is that he is sick or at least was. I know everyone right now is under all the pressure from the general american population being too fat but being too thin is bad too. Jobs looked like he was the type of thin that happens when you are sick, not from exercising because when people exercise there muscles get toned. Jobs looked more on the famished side, not the in shape side. -
Some people actually do need to go on a diet for health reasons, not because of fads. I'm supposed to try to eat better, because my cholesterol is in the 400's, but I haven't really done much about it short of skipping on the fries with my fast food most of the time. (And before anybody asks, I'm 5'10", and weigh 160lbs... Not really fat). Some times it needs to happen though.
Not really... That's why I haven't done much about my cholesterol. Might have something to do with why I'm building the most badass hearse in the world
Woz is a cuddly teddy bear
(A very smart teddy bear at that)

That made me LOL so hard xD. I didn't notice any difference in Steve when I was looking at the pictures on Engadget's live blog.
EMZ=] -
It is all that hippie organic crap they sell out there in California. Not every state can be as fortunate as Texas, where they sell real food, like ribeye, T bones, and sirloins.

Your pancreas produces digestive enzymes. His whipple procedure required taking out his gall bladder, part of his small intestine, stomach, and his pancreas and sewing the whole contraption together.
If you take out part of your small intestine (can't absorb nutrients), shrink your stomach (less storage space, so you have early satiety (feel full faster b/c your sense of fullness is in part triggered by stretching of the stomach, so you eat less), and then remove your pancreas (can't digest your food as well, so he has a tendency towards diarrhea (he needs to take enzyme supplements) , that's four reasons why you'll get thinner. The surgery is on average an 8 hour procedure.
He had a rare form of pancreatic cancer b/c the vast, vast majority of the time, it kills quickly and mercilessly (see: The Last Lecture professor). He dodged a major bullet in my mind despite his haggard appearance. Apparently they're saying his whipple procedure allowed for a cure, whereas most of the time, it's done so that you die a less agonizing death a few months later than you otherwise would.
Honestly, if I were Jobs and actually had a recurrence of pancreatic cancer, I'd pull a Bill Gates and give away my billions. He can do what he wants, but if I had little time left, I would not spend it on figuring out how to improve a macbook, I'd be trying to build a legacy or spend time with family and friends. We don't remember Alfred Nobel for the fact that he invented dynamite, and Carnegie is remembered as much for steel as he is for philanthropy. -
He is sick, he's admitted it to a reporter, but gave no further information by off-the-record etiquette. He did have cancer before, and Apple did keep it secret until he was nearly in operation (or after, I don't actually remember). But Steve has said it is beyond a common bug but not life threatening.
I do hope some appropriate heirs rise over the next few months and years. Steve Jobs, regardless of health, will need to retire or pass on someday, and frankly Apple, at least on the surface, is too focused on Steve, making a sudden resignation near certain stock death to Apple, even if not literally.
I think Steve Jobs realizes this, and the latest keynote, a lot more time was given to the usually absent Jonathan Ive, who is also featured in the new MacBook video. I think Apple is introducing Ive to the general public, because he is most likely to replace Steve Jobs as CEO should anything happen. -
Oh I made a comment that I heard he was a total jerk, but I don't wish cancer on anyone, not even him. After his comment, I just deleted mine, since I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

Well skipping the french fries won't do a thing for your cholesterol because theres not a vegetable in the world that has cholesterol in it and french fries are usually fried in vegetable oil. I'm not sure if its possible to fry them in lard.
As far as living longer, it all has to do with quality of life and not so much age. When people say they don't want to live longer its because of their quality of life that they have or that they think they are going to have. Sometimes people assume that when they get old things will turn bad and hence they assume they don't want to live that long. Theres lots of older folks with a great quality of life though and generally people do want to live longer. -
I think it's none of my business. And so should you.
Unless you actually own any stock or have a direct call in what's happening with Apple. The rest is just gossip, hear-tell, rumors, and downright rude. -
Yeap, thats something I noted too. Ives usually is never on stage...And dude, there really isn't anyone else who could take over Apple at the moment, Ives is pretty much it. And really, I think they've got it pretty much working without Steve, so his absence wouldn't mean much other than the stock tanking. Yes, we'd not get to see his black turtleneck, but really.
However, knowing Steve Jobs, he may just live forever.

By virtually all accounts, Jobs is pretty narcissistic based on contacts who work at Apple. I've never met the guy, but this is the impression that I've gotten over the years.
Whether he has cancer or not doesn't change my opinion. I never wished misfortune upon him when he was healthy.
But many people in his position, an insanely rich, influential rock star, are indeed narcissistic. He's certainly not the only one out there. I might even venture to say that if I was in his shoes, I'd behave the same way. -
I'm aware that there is 0mg of cholesterol in fries, but most have trans fats which are bad for LDL cholesterol levels in the human body. If I really wanted to improve my cholesterol, I really need to quit eating fast food completely (start bringing sandwiches to work), and I need to quit calling Dominos... But for the duration, that's just a step. Unfortunately bad eating habits aren't what caused my problems. I've got some genetic cholesterol issues (My father has horribly high cholesterol, and my brother who eats very healthy stuff 90% of the time had levels higher than mine when he was in the Army).
Honestly, the only reason I want to improve my cholesterol levels is so my circulation in my body can improve.
With that said, I'm ready to die whenever it happens. I've done some exciting things, been to some cool places, and had some fun. If it happens, I won't be the one missing out on anything though... -
Well, while we're on the topic of his work ethic and personality, I doubt talin meant that he deserved to die, just noted that he isn't the nicest boss out there. That's well documented, Steve Jobs is known to be hard to work for.
But its pretty evident that its for good reason, right? I mean, I think that is one reason why we enjoy Apple products so much, because if they weren't ready for shipment, Steve wouldn't let them ship them. Of course, there's exceptions, but the majority of the time, it is because of this demand for perfection and no compromise that has made Apple what it is today.
Imagine trying to develop the iPhone in secret and negotiating breakthrough deals with major carriers and being nice about it during that time. Very tough if you ask me
