It's a 2011 13" macbook pro, I always just close the lid, and when I open it up all is well. However last night I did the something, and this morning it was 100% dead. Something I'm missing? I am new to OSX.

Did you turn it off and not to sleep? Hit the power button to see if it starts up.

Did the battery die? Have you tried plugging it in?

Guys, you're giving him obvious suggestions. He's not an idiot. Obviously, he knows enough to try to plug it in. The best thing I could suggest is to IMMEDIATELY contact Apple, because your warranty isn't out yet. If you bought it very early 2011 you need to tell them immediately. It could be something serious and if it is you might just get a brand new laptop from Apple. :D

lol yes it was 100% dead. I plugged it in, and will call apple asap. Any way to know how much warranty I have left? I just bought it about 5 weeks ago. It was new, but it was form an ebay seller. $900 even for a new 2011 MBP was to good to pass up! lol

I'm not saying he's an idiot, just starting from the bottom and working up.

Anyway, it's not THAT urgent to contact Apple. It's not like you need to drop what you're doing and pick up the phone. It couldn't have been purchased before the model was released, which was late February. You have one year from the date of purchase, which gives you minimum 2 months, but probably closer to a year if it was brand new. Just bring it in to an Apple store and have them check it out.

Make sure to register your appointment online beforehand or it's a PITA.

The reason I said urgently is because he might have bought it in the beginning of 2011. If he bought it five weeks ago there is no need to "urgently" contact Apple.

If my laptop dropped dead, then I think I would not say lets sleep over it some days as it is a "casual thing" to happen.

Exactly! The longer you wait to report the problem, the more risk you run of making the whole getting it fixed process complex. Report it to Apple, and get it sorted right away.

Situations like these are usually unknown to the general user. You should just contact Apple and get it fixed. Easiest solution and the safest.

Guess it depends on what dates he means by beginning but 2011 MBP were first released in late Feb if I recall correctly. So he has to have until then to be covered with AppleCare. Probably more time though.
