Okay, so after I called my local Apple store and they said they absolutely would not replace my MBP for one dead pixel (which I figured), I figured I'd try some of the 'stuck pixel fixer' flashing images on the off chance the pixel was stuck and not dead. I found a widget called Pixel Fix and downloaded it and started running it. I moved the image over the dead/stuck pixel and noticed whenever I stopped it while the square was blue or red, the dead/stuck pixel disappeared and I couldn't see it unless I moved the square away. When I stopped the image while the square was green, I could see the pixel.

So what exactly does this mean? It would appear the pixel isn't dead, otherwise I should be able to see it no matter what. But if it is just stuck, how come as soon as I move the image or when the image is green, the pixel is still visible as black/not green?

It's possible the pixel is stuck only being able to display red and blue, meaning it would be visible on a green background, or on any background that would require a mixture of colours.

How long did you let Pixel Fix run? Most techs I know suggest letting stuck pixel fixers run overnight.

It's been running for about 2 hours now. Is it safe to have the screen on that long though? I mean I know burn in doesn't happen much with LCDs anymore, but 8-10 hours still seems a long time.

It's safe. I tend to recommend getting a video file that does what your widget does. Just put it in fullscreen and loop it and you're guaranteed no risk of burn-in.

You can download a copy of a video like this at:

The download link says: "Here is Version 2 of The Video"

Or just pray that your screen will soon start having more dead pixels so they can change your laptop :).

I let it run about 8-10 hours last night and no dice. Same as always. Worth a shot I suppose. I'm just perplexed as to what is actually going on with that pixel still though.
