How do they verify you are a student? Ive already ordered my MBP, but i dont see a way they verify that I actually am a student. Dont want to have it ordered only to have it cancelled because they couldnt verify me
-
If you order online, I don't think you need to go through any verification to prove you're a student...
I know in Canada, you need to enter your Student ID of your higher education school, but whenever I need to check educational pricing for USA, I just randomly pick a higher education school and enter.
So I'm assuming you don't need to verify if you order in USA online. No personal experience on it, though. -
no offense towards you Sam -
anyone had an experience with student purchases...?
-
I asked an Apple Sales representative about the online verification before and they would not give me a definitive answer. They told me that I need to accept the Shopping Agreement and that Apple can verify my status with the University at any time.
I call SHENANIGANS
When I purchased my Mac at an Apple Retail Store they only requested my Student ID. When I purchased an iPod online, I clicked the little green button shown below on the Shopping Agreement. As far as I know, that's all there is to the verification online.
-
sounds good, hope i dont have some sort of bad surprise though..
-
Kinda lame the student discount is only $100 off. Should be more like $200 or 250 IMO
-
I agree! If it was $200+ off...I'd buy a MBP. Instead, I settle on a Macbook... still nice, but it's no MBP.
-
actually the student discount is $200 off for the mbp... and even more for the higher end models
-
not its not.
-
-
I wish it was more though...
In Canada, the MBP is $2199 - 200 = $1999... still out of my budget -
credit cards are for this kinda thing
-
It's a simple process. Go to the Apple education store (US) and make the purchase. There's no verification on Macbooks or iPods; just an instant discount. Again, Apple trusts people to do the right thing. BTW - you don't have to be the student; you may purchase for your college student, spouse, etc. I've purchased three iPods and one MPB through their edu program over the last three years. If only they would discount the new iPod Touch...
-
It's -10% on student, -20% (once) through ADC. Depends on your model, for example, obviously -10% discount on 17" will be bigger.
-
-
Hey,
They do verify it, but only in rare cases. Just be prepared to provide proof, if needed.
I've purchased many things via the educational discount and they have only asked once.
BTW, it does state you have to be either a student, faculty or staff at an educational institution.

My sister-in-law tried to buy a Macbook from the US site. She lives in Canada but attended university in the US so she tried to buy the MacBook using her ID. The purchase 'went through' but a few days later she got an email saying that her university location and credit card information do not match as the university is in the US and her credit card address is in Canada. So she had to end up buying it in Canada.
I think as long as your live in the US and buy it from the US, you shouldn't have a problem. -

As early as this spring! That'd be awesome! -
We definitely need an Apple Store in Vancouver. Too bad they won't sell the products at the US prices...
-
I bought my MacBook is San Fran although I live in Toronto, ON. I was fortunate to meet an old friend in San Fran who had a US student ID and drivers lic. As per the Apple Salesperson, they needed to have a US Student ID and drivers lic. that showed some proof of US residence. I was able to pay with my credit card though. Also, with regards to the mail-in rebates, I have to get them mailed to a US address as they will not mail the cheques to Canada.

Apple really needs to lower their product prices here in Canada. I'm glad some of the other retailers here are lowering their prices. For a while the most of the malls here in Toronto were not very busy as most people seemed to be heading to Buffalo for their shopping needs.
The TV-out cable costs around $30 CDN at BestBuy, I bought it for $20 US in Buffalo and than worked out to about $19 CDN and change. -

200Euro off the price is what I should get here (since in western European countries that's the student discount), but instead I get 5% off and a starting price for the 2.4Ghz MBP of 2700Euro, which is way too much.
In Italy for instance if you want to buy a MacBook Pro (using the site) all you have to do is to provide the name of the university and the town where it is located. And you get 200E off the price, without any further proof. I think they probably check to see if you're a student. -

Yeah, but I'm unsure about the purchase. I might even study in Italy, so I would be able to buy with the student discount.
What amazes me is how Apple is taking advantage of Europeans. The prices are something like US price (of the corresponding model) + VAT + 350$ (2.2Ghz 15"), 475$ (2.4Ghz 15") and 550$ (17"). How does that sound? I find that it would be cheaper to import one from an US store and pay the VAT. That would save me at least 350$ for the base model. -
Do you mean which product to buy or if the Italian purchase will work?
-
No, I mean if I should even buy one or not. I would buy one from the US if I could import it, but maybe in the summer. Either way, I don't see the prices going down in Europe.
Also, the Apple care costs 440 Euro, which is... -
HOLY $#^&!
440 Euro for AppleCare... thats insane. I think if you can get it from the US, then thats what you should do.
