I intend to upgrade to 4 gigs... and these are my options -

3. G.Skill 2x2GB @ 234.99 (i.e. price for each 2 GB is ~ $117)

4. Crucial 2GB @ $ 139.99

Mushkin was a new entrant in the list.. hence couldnt put it up as a poll entry ...
Opinions would be really welcome... i intend to buy it tonight!

I prefer Crucial RAM the most.
-
I like Corsair but it really doesn't make much/any difference as long as it's not unbranded. Transcend is fine if you want to save some $$.
-
go for transcend.
-
-
I've updated Mushkin into the list... any takes between Crucial and Mushkin as to which one you'ld rather prefer, since they seem to be on the top of the heap...
-
I tend to be more concerned with where these companies got their chips than who the company is.
-
Typically I stay away from Value RAM, but Corsair Value RAM is probably one exception.
Anyways, with those options I would choose the Crucial. -
RAM is RAM. Go with the cheapest.

My Macbook has 2gb of ram (2x1gb) - i would like to take one of those 1gb sticks out, sell it, and then buy a 2gb stick of ram totalling 3gb of ram. Are any of these RAM's listed above compatable with the MacBook as well?

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
go with transcend for price. the speeds are really the only thing that matters and they should all be 667mhz ddr2. clock timings matter a little bit... especially if you OC your ram, but who is OCing ram? its already plenty fast for the fsb in dual channel mode...
go for the cheapest option that fits your spec sheet: 667mhz ddr2. -
Also, 667MHz is only supported with Santa Rosa, so buying 800MHz DDR2 RAM will display very minimal, if any, performance differences. -
All those companies are great, for SODIMMs it really doesnt matter which you go with since they are all basically the same chips. For desktop RAM thats a whole different story. So for laptop ram, either go with the cheapest or the best spec'ed you can afford since you most likely can reuse the ram later down the road. I still have 3 sets of 1gb sticks that are in various older computers. If anything make sure they have lifetime warranty if you want a little peace of mind. Corsair, Crucial, Mushkin, Gskill do, not sure about transcend.

G.Skill is my favorite ram vendor.. But really for this application it doesn't matter a whole lot.

So... In short, the Australian dollar is sinking fast, and while I was planning to buy RAM in a couple of months time I think it's a better idea to do it now before the dollar drops any further.
This was the cheapest DDR2 PC2-5300 667mhz RAM I could find on eBay.
If I'm not planning to OC or anything, will it do? -
Counting the days till newegg ships to canada so I can get decent part prices here for ram....
-
Thanks for all the inputs folks... i thought long and hard... and im going in for crucial right now. ordered 2x2GB ... and should be reaching me sometime mid week ... knowing that it's crucial and is directly affiliated with micron gives me peace of mind.. albeit at a cost of 20-30 bucks more than other ram that i was checking out...
it was my first ram purchase... so ... ddnt want to take chances....
I personaly havent heard of this ram... but i did some digging up .. and it seems like the ram chips they're getting are from samsung... which ought to be high quality .... but .. if i were you..... i'ld probaby look in newegg.com .. or memoryx.net or some similar site.. where a lot of the ram they sell have lifetime warranties ... im not so sure whether the ebay store you buy ram from will give u a lifetime warranty...
just a thought...
best of luck -
Sorry iam late to this, but I have 2x1GB of Mushkin in my MBP and have been very happy with it. I also added it to the poll, I know it's late, but oh well.
Suggest which RAM to choose for MBP 15.4"
