If Apple wants to really innovate in their laptops they should add switchable graphics to the MBP. It improves battery life immensely and isn't even that costly. Lenovo has done it and it really is a great innovation. If the new MBP doesn't have switchable graphics im going to be quite disappointed.

and what is the point of this thread? You should send this to Apple ,INC.
-
It is a good innovation I agree. For the record: Sony has being doing it for a couple of years in SZ series.
-
Asus also has had it for a while now, and it is a pretty sweet concept that actually works in execution.
-
"innovate" lol, basically everyone who is going for centrino 2 is doing this or going to do this, so whats innovative about this.. ^^
What would be innovative would be a glass touchscreen instead of the regular trackpad that would be really hard for the competition to copy. -
For the record, Uniwill used switchable graphics back in 2006 as well.
That technology, however, wasn't so popular since it required restart which the new implementations don't. So, that is an innovation for the whole industry, more or less. However, it's up to the OEMs whether to implement it or not.
So far, only a few Sony and Lenovo notebooks have it, the rest apparently will lack of that "innovation" at this point.
One thing to consider is that "restart-free" switch works only under Vista so far. XP requires reboot, and there is no working drivers for Linux yet. OS X anyone? -
Take a look at the MBP logic board and come back when you find a solution of where to put that IGP. I also really doubt Apple is going to increase the dimensions on the MBP.
-
also in the new alienwares
-
Just wanted to see what other people though about it. It's just such a game changer as far as battery life and performance, and for a laptop starting at $2000 it's something I would kind of expect. I guess the dimensions the current MBP has does kind of hinder it though.
-
Well how many laptops do you know of that have an 8600gt or better and still get 4+ hours of battery life? Apple's solution to power management is a hell of a lot better than that of most PC manufacturers.
-
From what I've heard if they are not going to use Intel's chipset, then no they won't.
-
It would be really interesting to see His Jobsness come on stage and announce it like he invented the feature and all. It'd probably **** me off to no end, since its another thing that Sony did first that Apple shamelessly ripped off and took the credit for *ahem*MacBook keyboard design*ahem*
Granted, Apple is even better at copying than Microsoft - MS can only rip things off, sell a whole lot of them and make a huge profit. Apple will rip things off, make you forget the previous things even existed, sell them, and make even more profit on them. Steve Jobs is a cunning, cunning man. -
He is a Genius!
-
It's not Apple nor Intel, it's nVidia and ATI, they were supposed to included hybrid mode in their new series.
-
It's up to Apple whether to implement that feature or not. It is Intel since "Switchable Graphics" is an optional feature for Centino 2 based notebooks.
All new Nvidia and some ATI cards support hybrid mode. Those card can be used either with Intel chipset or their own chipsets. In the second case, dedicated cards will work together with their integrated GPUs (Hybrid SLI/Hybrid CrossFireX), we will see that soon (Studio XPS). -
What is innovative now a days? Apple stole the idea of the ipod from a british guy. Took the UI from Xerox back in the day. M$ stole stuff too.
Point is that no one is really innovative anymore. There are some times when people are innovative (Uniwill with the switchable graphics), but now adays it is more about ripping off a idea that someone had that was never popular
But yes the should do switchable graphics. -
Now that would be something -
When is the New Macbookpro coming out?
