As I sit here in Sweetwater Cafe in downtown Ann Arbor, somebody walked up behind me to unplug their notebook and I had occasion to look around. I saw a young woman with a MBP to my right and glancing to my left I saw a whitebook that looks to be the same vintage as mine. What? No PeeCee's? So I glanced a little further across the room and saw what I was certain was a pc. It was black. Then I saw the magsafe adapter. It was a blackbook. Clearly Mac is getting just a tad more popular, at least in Ann Arbor. It hasn't been that long that seeing a MB in a wifi hotspot was somewhat of a novelty. I don't mind one bit being a member of an increasingly less exclusive "club"![]()

Well I think the "Cafe" part of your story is the most telling part - Apple users, from what I've seen, are more likely to be in a cafe, as opposed to just being at home or something. But yes, it's also about the "culture" of the Mac these days.

Looks like we'll need to start up a new club.

^ That's a wonderful machine!

hah nice! I don't drink coffee so I don't know how popular they are out their. I got a few co-workers that have them but that's the extent of it.

How can you belong to the Cool Apple Culture Club if you don't drink coffee??
/sips mocha, lovingly wipes speck of dust from beloved MBP -
haha... Unsure I never liked coffee I can't stand the smell of it. Closest i would get to a beverage at a coffee shop is a Hot Chocolate

After that post I looked in another direction and saw a few windows machines but they were outnumbered by about 11 to 3 in that particular coffee shop. I've been a Mac user on and off for years and I've looked around to see just how many of them cropped up in which situations. Today was the first time I've noticed that particular ratio. During those years I've also used Linux and Windows. I have found that Linux and MacOS tend to be stable and less sensitive to small tweaks breaking major things.
I don't get over to Ann Arbor that often so I don't know if it is something new but around my area the Macs "out in public" are still drastically outnumbered by windows boxes.
Sorry if some folks thought this was some sort of cheerleading plant by Apple, it's just an observation coupled with optimism that there will be some increasing OS platform diversity in the future.
Nobody came around to make you buy anything but I was hungry so I got Chili and a glass of water.

I've gotta ask, as a guy who has lived in Ann Arbor a long time...
Where the hell is Sweetwaters? I've heard of it from everybody, but have never seen it or been there.
I don't own a Mac laptop though... I've got my toughbook, which gets even more attention... And if you catch me in the right mood, I might shove it off the table.
You're Canadian... You can't tell me that you don't drink a "double double" on a daily basis

Haha, yeah, coffee shops, I see tons of Macs...and university campuses as well (I'm not in university though).
-
LOL! ya, you do that.. reminds me of some stupid idiot/s (theres a few apparently) that thinks thinkpads are indestructable, and smash them into the flooror worse out the windows
now... if it dont completely ruin your machine... some damage will be done...
-
haha actually my wife does at least once a day, but i'm anti-coffee.

who cares about "the club". I bought my first mac a month ago and absolutely love it. Everything just works and it works very well. I even play my windows games with no problems. I hope more people come to the darkside...they really are missing out.
