I am typing on my new Macbook Pro right now![]()
I have owned a Macbook Pro Core Duo 17", Asus A8Js, and a V2Je
I have to say the screen on this is by the BEST I have ever seen.
The black levels are perfect and the viewing angles are amazing.
I get no bleeding at the bottom and top part of the screen. I am extremely satisfied. It's so nice to goto this screen after using primarily 14" screens which have horrible vertical viewing angles.
I am at work right now but when I get home tonight I will take some pictures of it.
I have been waiting for this update for a while, I actually ordered it from the Apple store this morning and when I found out they were in stock in the local apple store, so i just canceled my order and picked one up during work![]()
I also got the iPod 30g and printer ($300 in rebates), which I happened to need because my nano stop holding a charge.

Care to review it for us ?
-
How's the heat with the new Santa Rosa chip? Also, come back later today and let us know how the battery life is
If you're planning on going with 4 gigs of ram, check out the 2-gig sticks on Newegg for $135 shipped each:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231124
Very interested to hear your impressions! -
I will see if I can do a review tonight.
Using the Hardware Monitor Widget, not sure if this program is accurate.
Fujitsu HD @ 38C
CPU @ 43C -
It'll be great
Thanks. -
thats quite cooler than mine, although mine has been on for a while.
-
Did you get a glossy or non-glossy screen?
And can you check the clocks of the 8600M GT in it? Apple have underclocked their GPUs in the past... -
Oh wow, you already have the new Macbook Pro? Great.
-
This is the exact configuration I've been waiting for. Parallels is to the point where I can switch without looking back; now that you can max out at 4 gigs of ram I can put 2 gigs in XP under Parallels and 2 gigs in OS X. Perfect! The ram is like $400 cheaper if you install it yourself, too
I'm debating waiting for the 200gb 7200rpm hard drive from Hitachi that's supposed to be released to consumers this summer for $250. Dell and Alienware laptops already have it...an extra 40 gigs would be really nice in the long haul. My only gripe is that it's such a pain to swap out hard drives in a MacBook Pro...not hard to take apart but a real pain to reassemble lol.
-
I have the matte screen, I don't like glossy screens. The color/saturation is very good.
How can I check the GPU clocks in OS X?
Any other programs or bench marks people want me to check? (in OSX)
I will install bootcamp/windows tonight. -
I don't think whether you know it or not, but you are of the first users here to get your hands on a 8600GT
How many Windows games do you have ?
You can really make a good review off it (And the internet is almost devoid of solid, real-life benchmarks for 8600GT).
If you want, first make a "first impression" review fast and then [in the holidays] make a full review. -
I was the first person to buy it at the Apple store
the employees didn't even really know what was going on, just said they got a bunch of new boxes in the back.
I don't do much 3D gaming anymore besides War3 Dota. (waiting for Quakewars & TF2)
I will give 3DMark a try once I get bootcamp running.
Anyway, I am extremely happy so far with this purchase so far. -
I suppose the standard benchmark programs apply: SuperPi and 3Dmark06. If you have any recent PC games lying around to test gfx performance, that'd be nice. If not, oh well. And when you have time, can you test battery life?
Which 15 inch version did you get? -
The one first to get to be the first one to review...
-
Yea I'm loving the screen. Ridiculous brightness, instant response, seems good on the battery life, very pleased.
-
Can you comment on how far the screen tilts back? The "old" MBP screen does not tilt back far enough for my uses.
This is what I'm talking about:

i ordered over the phone, so mines going to be a while. please post back with info relating to heat, build quality and such.. -
-
Just canceled my T61 order and bought one of these as well. I'm still getting it set up but it's awesome so far. Screen looks great and not too hot and woohoo! I'll write more about it as I use it more.
-
You guys are killing me. Several people have them and no one wants to you know like write a review yet
?
-
-
congrats, im really surprised a 15" LED backlight would come out so soon but its suited for a mac to have it first.
Id love to take a pantone spyder to it. It would rock! -
did you get the 15" or 17" model? I don't think the 17" model has the LED backlight yet
-
I too got a 15" MBP today! I'll be posting a bunch of pictures and a short review later this evening. This is my first Mac, and I couldn't be more excited.
* 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 1440 x 900 resolution
* 2GB memory
* 160GB hard drive 5400RPM
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive
* NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics with 256MB SDRAM -
Grats
still playing with the MBP!
at max brightness with Wifi and interneet browsing i get alittle over 3 hours. -
Right now i have it side by side my A04 Dell 2407WFP monitor, and I have to say the macbook's screen looks just as good if not better then it.
-
i might have to go to the Apple store today and see if they have any 17" 1920x1200 models in stock. I can't imagine that resolution being usable at all however, sure if all you do is work on massive massive photos it should be fine, but reading any menu would just be an absolute pain, especially with Pro software like final cut studio, hmm. . .
1680x1050 looks perfectly fine to me -
demenion, take your time playing with it. We want your full review to be as accurate and detailed as possible.

PICTURES NOW!....please.
-
I am actually reinstalling OSX right now, I will get XP bootcamp installed and hopefully run benchmarks soon.
my digital camera is not very good to show off the screen. it makes it look pretty bad
sorry for the flash, i took this earlier in the day.. but you can *somehwat* see how solid the black level is..
again, i apologize for bad quality and flash.. -
Wow, that's an awesome piece of machinery. I'm jealous! I have that Canon iP43000 printer, you will love it. -
-
I am EXTREMELY picky about my notebook screens, but this one is awesome. -
nice Wacom
is that the 6x11 I see, best freaking tablet ever!!
-
Sorry, I stand corrected, I read his posting wrong, that's why I edited it my reply. Damn, you guys are fast. You got me before I changed my post. Still I want to steal his new MacBook Pro.
-
Drafting a review. Anything specific you guys want to see -

Hard to do a decent review of game benches when I won't be boot-camping. The only real decent bench marking tool for Mac's i've found was XBench, anyone know of something similar to 3dMark for the Mac?
-
how the LED screen compares to LCD if possible. Also whether you went for the glossy / matte screen and how that looks
Can't wait for the review!
Oh and one last thing, love your desktop background, where'd ya get it? -
Haha, That particular one I believe is from DeviantArt. I'm addicted to vector wallpapers.
Also, to post my review internally on this forum, my pictures will have to use the -
ill try to get some game benches up.. been really tired all day so haven't really played around t hat much.
i couldn't sleep last night because I was excited about the new MBPs -
ltcommander_data Notebook Deity
Does anyone know if the screen is actually thinner than the previous MBP? I thought LED backlits were supposed to be thinner, but Apple is still saying 1" thick. I'm hoping they thinned the screen and made the main chassis thicker to improve airflow while still maintaining 1".
-
-
^^^highly doubt it, wouldn't be worth the cost to change the casing that much, and cooling was improved with the last update wasn't it? even if only slightly.
not to mention the screens are already super super thin. -
Can anyone comment on how far the screen tilts back? The "old" MBP screen doesn't tilt back far enough for my uses.
I have a similar problem to this guy :

-
Is it just the angle of the camera, or does it look like the screen in that video only tilt to about 100 degrees? That seems *really* narrow, especially if the notebook's on my lap. Seconding xprohx's question.
-
The backlit LED screen is amazing...
