This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    True, neither company wants to see the other "win", because winning would entail complete "defeat" of the other company.

    But it doesn't mean that they won't continue to support the other platform when it is pragmatic for them.

    In Apple's case, of course, the iPod and iTunes could never have been as successful if they remained as Mac-only products.

    In Microsoft's case, as has often been noted, the Macintosh Business unit that develops Office for Mac (with Office 2008 coming out later this year) is still the largest third party Mac development house in the world. MS supports Office partly out of need and partly because they actually make a nice chunk of change selling it.

    As for why MS doesn't support the Mac on other things, like their Windows Media formats, the Zune, etc........ harder to say. Probably comes down to a business decision for them (such a small marketshare of Mac users, and of those Mac users, they're probably even more likely to be less receptive to the Zune and Windows Media than the average computer user).
