I just read on CNN Money that Leapord is due out June 11 and new iterations of the notebooks in the summer or early fall with Santa Rosa. My difficulty is that I may be moving soon and kind of wanted to deal with getting the new computer before then.

So I could buy knowing within a few months something bigger and better is coming out, kind of life in the computer world anyway, or...

Maybe buy one that is a year or so old with the idea of reselling it.

    Thoughts, suggestions for used ones??

I don't think I'd buy an old one because then you would actually have to go through more hassle trying to find a quality used one only to sell it again within a few months. I'd simply hold off for as long as possible unless you NEED a new notebook.

Easily solved by buying refurbished straight from Apple. And honestly, I'd say buy when you want it. Playing the waiting game is pointless because something new will ALWAYS come out (one of the few things guaranteed in life). For people who bought the original CD MBP, it was outdated in 7 months. For people who bought the C2D MBP, Santa Rosa MBPs will probably arrive in June/July. For those who wait for Santa Rosa MBPs, they'll miss the 45nm wave next spring.

But compared to people who got a CD MBP and maybe a Santa Rosa MBP, what has someone really gained for waiting 1.5 years? Increase in battery life by an hour? 4 hours for that kind of laptop is still quite amazing on a CD MBP. Or maybe you want to say increased performance? But if performance were so important that you were willing to wait that long, perhaps you should have gotten a desktop instead!

I say, buy when you want to. After a year, it won't matter that much anyway.

I can't agree on buy when you want. Thats a bad policy.
You can easily get screwed by buying a new laptop, then the next gen coming out 1 month later. To me, I'd only wait 2-3 months for something I want. If it's something I NEED, then that's a different matter. I wish I would have waited another 1 month for the c2d to come out. It's more than just hardware upgrades they got... they got fixes. And better unit construction.

i completely agree with dagamer. you wont gain a whole lot from the santa rosa machines. if you need onebefore you move, buy one now, simple as that.
