if you know how to read (meaning you kinda have to figure out its underlying argument) then you'd realize that i never said aluminum is exclusive to 'pro line.' i said it has more to do with keeping macbook as a 'budget' notebook. it _does not_ matter if aluminum cost the same as plastic.
to summarize your argument as politely as i can: "i see a trend in apple and it's aluminum all the way! it's used in ipod so surely we'll see more of aluminum outside the 'pro line'."
yup gotcha![]()

However, there are many more things that make the MacBook and MacBook Pro different. Screen size, GPU, CPU speed, backlit keyboard.
The trend in Apple products is moving ALL of their products to aluminum. How can you even begin to dispute that when everything from the iPod to the iMac has been moved from plastic to aluminum?
If you knew how to read, you'd see that I never said that YOU said that aluminum was exclusive to the "pro" line. That was APPLE's stance in the past. However, that has changed.
Also, the iBook and MacBooks have never been "budget" Macs. They have always been marketed as the CONSUMER notebook while the PowerBook and MacBook Pro were marketed as the PROFESSIONAL notebook.
In the past, for a very short time, Apple used aluminum as a means to separate the consumer and professional lines.
However, a little bit of common sense and looking at Apple's own product changes show that this is no longer the case.
Even using your own logic shows you are mistaken. The Mac mini is marketed as a budget Mac for switchers and it is encased in aluminum.
And, again, even if it is about keeping the product line different, there are many more things that set the MacBook and MacBook Pro apart. Not just the casing. The MacBook could receive an anodized aluminum case and it will still be the same "consumer" notebook it is today that is built and marketed towards people with basic computing needs.
Again, common sense dictacts that all of their products, except obvious ones like power adapters, will be encased in aluminum at some point. Common sense here.. Not to mention the fact that everyone and their brother keeps asking "WHERE IS THE ALUMINUM MACBOOK!?" You really think Apple is going to ignore OBVIOUS customer demand? Say it with me.. "common sense". -
common sense says macbook is still plastic, it's still selling well, and there's no sign of any revision anytime soon. also my not-so-common sense tells me apple knows exactly what they're doing and they'll continue to make macbooks in plastic until there is a major revision to current MBP.

Apple rarely breaks the usual 6 month upgrade/revision cycle. So that means it will continue to be plastic for another few months.
However, again, looking at Apple's recent actions, theres no reason to believe that either the Spring or Fall revision this year will not be anodized aluminum. -
I was at my local Best Buy today and they removed the Macbooks on display and only had the MBP and the MBA. I asked the salesperson, where the Macbooks were and if they had any in stock. He stated that they were instructed to removed them and only had a couple of the Macbooks in stock. Not sure if Apple is doing this to push more sales of the MBA or if this points to a revision of the Macbook in the near future.

Well at least your Best Buy displays them!! I can't find one in the store nearest to me so I have to drive to the next town over to see them!!!
