Datamem.com has a 2x2GB kit (also with lifetime warranty) but for $110.
The Newegg deal saves me $25. I'm about to order a MBP from the campus store, hopefully by Friday.
Any ideas if that RAM will work? I assume RAM that fits in the Macbook will also fit in the Macbook Pro (one reviewer said it worked fine in his Macbook).

-
you have a new macbook pro?
-
No, I'm about to order one and wanted to have the RAM handy. I need the laptop for a layout I'm doing and our deadline is by next week...am down to the wire.
-
i am sure it will fit perfectly
-
Any notebook ddr2 667 memory will work. Apple computers do not require anything different. G.skill is a good brand, so is corsair, mushkin, crucial, and ocz.
-
Yeah, that is the right type of RAM for the MacBook and MBP. By the way, just a note, you don't always necessarily need to have "Mac RAM" either. As long as it is the right type of notebook RAM, it'll work on the Mac as well
.

I'm currently running 2x2GB G. Skill from Newegg.com
I paid like $100 with overnight shipping included and it works flawlessly.
Any DDR2- PC2- 5300 or PC2- 5400 RAM should work. The PC2- 6400 RAM however does not work in Macbook Pros. -
I just installed 4 GB of Kingston PC-5300 in my MBP and it works fantastic. I got it from Newegg for $75.00 Not a bad deal. And yes I have the new 2.6 ghz processor 15" model.
-
I have the Penryn. Love it.
-
I've had really good luck from Kingston RAM but they're hard to find cheap, at least here in Canada.
-
Make sure to always check NCIX.com, TDDirect.ca, etc.!
-
Is 4GB worth getting?
-
So how come the PC2-6400 modules don't work in the MBP? Is it not capable of recognizing them and scaling them down to PC2-5300 speeds?
-
I think you can put the 6400 in the MBP it just wont be able to use all the speed...I may be wrong but thats what I have heard.
I believe it is worth getting 4gb especially if you plan to run bootcamp like I do. I notice my programs are faster and the gaming performance is slightly better (not a major difference though).
Since 4gb is only about $75.00 from newegg I think its a very worthwhile upgrade. -
I'd say unless you absolutely want perfect optimization, not really. 2 GB of RAM is already more than enough for most tasks. But if you're doing virtualization, like Parallels or VMware Fusion, yes, more than 2 GB of RAM is a good idea.
-
Nah im not...internet, iphoto, idvd doesnt need more than 2gb. I dont even use more than 1.2gb when doing a load of stuff.
-
Well, its not really about using up to 2 GB, but more that the more RAM, the better. You may not use up to 1 GB of RAM, but having 2 GB of RAM still is more beneficial than having 1 GB of RAM.
But in your case, 2 GB of RAM sounds fine
.

Thanks Sam. I'll check them out next time although I've never bought anything from them before. NCIX I think is in Vancouver.
-
That is wrong...
The only way you can use PC2- 6400 RAM (in a Macbook Pro) is to mix it with a PC2- 5300/5400 module.
i.e. 2GB PC2-5400 and 2GB PC2-6400 this will scale the DDR2 800MHZ module down.
Two PC2- 6400 RAM modules will not work in a Macbook Pro. -
Yeaps, NCIX is based in Vancouver but ships to Canada and USA. They also own a few other online stores, like TDDirect.ca
. I've purchased from both stores, RAM from NCIX and earbuds from TDDirect, and they were very good with service and delivery
.
This ram ok for new Penryn MBP ?
