Total MacBook Pro Revamp in 2012

Looks like we'll expect to new a MBP redesign next year.... Sigh... was looking forward to the new liquid metal upgrade!

Just curious,

What benefits would be expectant and would impress you, with a LiquidMetal body?

 

Aluminum is soft. Good design helps, but they also have to use a lot of it to make it sturdy. That's why MBP are heavy. I don't know much about LiquidMetal, but if it means it's a better alloy, I'm sure the weight and bulk can go down. I hope the leaked MBP13 specs are not true.

 

After all the fishy rumours about MacBook Pro 2011, you actually believe rumours of the MacBook Pro 2012 already?

They've just taken the rumours from the 2011 models that didn't go through and just added them to the rumours for 2012 list.. Just likes there were rumours about insane resolution on the iPad 2, once it was proven wrong you see rumors of the exact same thing just now it's about the iPad 3..

 

It seems obvious that 2012 would be the expected year for a full MacBook Pro revamp since Apple typically releases a MBP with a completely new design about every four years. The new MacBook Pro is tempting, but I think I will wait until the next major revamp and buy it then. A new design makes it easier to perceive as a bigger update, anyway.

 

and the other reason the revamp will be 2012 is because there are die shrinks by intel (ivy bridge),nvidia and AMD coming next year, so there should be lower thermal envelopes to play with across the board!

 

weak and heavy compared to what? the only major laptop that is lighter than the 13" MBP is the Sony vaio z. It still creaks WAYYY more than the MBP.

 

I got caught up in the rumors, but still thinking about getting a 2011 17" or 15".

As interesting as LiquidMetal sounds, I can't stop thinking about that Apple Patent for Carbon Fiber and how even if it was for just the bottom chassis or lid, it would be a strong and light material that is definitely "Pro".

Obviously they would have to get the fab costs down to reasonable levels.

 

This is the time to upgrade before the biggest revision of the past few years probably comes at the end of 2012. Any revisions in between will be minor. If we knew that the next major design upgrade was not coming for a few more years, I would be all over this revision, but holiday 2012 is the most likely time for the next big upgrade.

 

I think I'll wait for a whole company refresh, Between Lion Dev release and the new MacBooks I'm pissed as help at Apple. THey broke a few UI things I liked, even how scrolling works. The new UI changes seem to be just for the safe of change and are inconsistent, They charge over $2,200 for a $1,500 laptop, over $1200 for a $800 laptop...


I've given up. I'm going back to Windows. A few days ago I placed an order fro a refurbished Core i5 15in. I'm going to just return to sender and spend my money else where.

 

I'd say something, but using Windows speaks for itself after a few weeks .

 

Apple's higher prices (usually called the Apple Tax) should not be anything new and has been a practice of theirs going back to the early days when they were going up against Big Brother (IBM). They charged higher prices then and they continue to do so, I don't really understand why people are still so shocked over this after ~30 years (maybe even more).

As for the MacBook Pro revamp, it was bound to happen anyway. I still wouldn't be surprised if the complete "redesign" doesn't look all that different from what is out now (which still retains the basic layout and look of the old Powerbook G4 Titanium notebooks released many years ago). This is Apple we are talking about, they aren't suddenly going to add neon lights, a subwoofer, and other content to their notebooks. They have stuck with minimalistic designs for their higher end notebooks ever since they first introduced them, that isn't going to change anytime soon.

 

I have no problem with Windows I use it in a VM every day at work.

 

The simple changes that are unexpected is what makes the redesigns so great. Apple's redesigns are usually better than expected because typically people can not think of too many ways they could improve.

 

I never said MBP is weak. I was just talking about the material's characteristics.

There are plenty of powerful portable laptops that are lighter than MBP, but it is true that it's hard to find a quality that matches to MBP. Yes, vaio Z, vaio SA/SB are ones that come in my mind.

Hey I really like the MBP13 2011, I even bought one on launch day. It's my first mac, and I was hesitant because I think it's still a little heavy for a 13 incher. Yeah, but it feels solid. But I might return it and wait for the next total redesigned model, wishing it has a higher resolution (like in ipod touch's retina display), and weighing less.
