Touchpad doesn't feel right

I've got a MacBook (not pro), but both the touchpad and using an external mouse don't feel right. I tried using that tool I found somewhere, forget the name, that allows me to soup up the acceleration levels. But there's something about the Mac's logic of moving the pointer around. When you move slowly, it moves really slowly. The acceleration level only seems to affect the motion speed when you're moving the pointer quickly. So when I move slowly, it moves too slowly. I want to control that initial motion speed. I want it to *start* accelerating without having to move the pointer quickly.

My other laptop, a Dell with Linux, its touchpad is A1 perfect. It's sensitive, it moves fast, it accelerates, it also still, even though I have it set very sensitive, allows me to move the pointer pixel perfect, without skipping pixels. Thus I have accuracy, and nice sensitive speed.

But on the Mac it feel sluggish. It feels heavy, like it's dragging, and needs a whole lot of energy to get lugged around.

Both the mouse setting tool, and that extra downloaded tool I found, only gives me a single scrollbar that sets the acceleration level. But it needs 2 scrollbars, one the overal speed, and the other for the acceleration speed. Why hasn't any developer thought of this and provided a decent tool for this?

Have you tried checking the Disable Acceleration box in the tool and then playing around with the normal trackpad speed settings? Because that worked for me.

 

It's an interesting point. I've always hated the way macs' pointers tracked on the screen, but then I got one. It took me all of ten seconds to get used to it and now I like it better. I now tend to use short, but very quick motions when moving the pointer as opposed to the slower movements I used to make. I'll make a quick motion to get the pointer in the area that I want it then move the mouse more slowly to put it exactly on target.

ps. Same happened to me. Ordered an N100, then canceled because *after* placing the order, they tell me it'd take close to 2 months. Yeah oh, screw that, canceled, ordered Dell, had it in 8 days. That was at august school rush time.
