Have had the new Macbook Pro for a month now without any problems, very happy with it after taking ages to decide to go to mac from pc.
Recently sent a firmware update for the trackpad which I installed and now trackpad doesn't work at all.
Spoken to support who have been very helpful and tried to solve problem in various ways but to no avail. I have now today taken the notebook to an Apple centre near to my home in Nice, France for repair where they will hopefully call me next week to collect.
Anyone have any experience of this problem themselves?
Also I just read somewhere that I should have taken the notebook back to my supplier (although not so easy as I bought it in London) for replacement rather than have it repaired. Any opinions on this ?
Regards to all.

hm.. did you remove all peripherals from the notebook before you did the install?
did u get an error message?
was the installation interrupted?
did you try downloading drivers?
did you try using usb mouse?
sorry for all the questions, but i think we can narrow down the problem like this -
No error messages
I don't believe the installation was interrupted
A usb mouse is useable
Have tried re-installing the system from my disc and also today at the 'Apple Centre' tried to install the firmware again but its already there.
All peripherals were removed during the 1st install -
Have spoken to the repair centre today and they are waiting to receive a new motherboard which apparently is the problem.
Hoping to get the computer back tomorrow. -
Hmmm Odd I updated mine with out a problem, even tho it was to fix a problem I didn't have.

I just spoke to the Apple centre and they have replaced the motherboard yesterday however the same trackpad problem is still there.
Apparently they are now waiting for an answer from Apple themselves.
Should Apple now offer a replacement perhaps?
What is a reasonable timeframe for them to fix this issue? -
Mine is also without any problems after the update.
Go to your nearest Apple store and visit the Genius bar. I'm sure someone could help you, either get it fixed or get a replacement. I personally think it's a software issue, but it could be possible that the trackpad's ribbon connector got loose as well. Have you opened up your MBP? Just asking, incase you did a RAM upgrade. -
I love the trackpad on the new Macbooks. Hopefully you get yours fixed and keep us updated!

Eventually after 2 weeks of non repair in the Apple Centre in France I retrieved it and took it back to the store in London where I bought it.
After several dozen phone calls between myself, Apple Customer Relations and the store itself they have finally replaced the unit. I collected it last week and everything is working fine, after updates etc too.
Lets hope it stays that way as its been extremely frustrating not to mention expensive logistically.
One thing - When pressing shift for the pound sign above the number 3 it comes up with the # sign. Any ideas why and how it can be sorted?
Thanks -

My unit was bought in the UK and I assume it is different from a US keyboard as there is an actual Pounds Sterling character above the 3 on my keyboard.
I have checked and tried changing the 'System preferences, International' options and still no change when I go to type the UK currency character. -

Its sorted, I needed to change the 'input menu' under International as well.
Cheers
