Hey guys, I haven't posted in a while but I've been having some problems with my Macbook lately. Every now and then, in the past, I've had problems with my trackpad not working. It was pretty sporadic and didn't happen often. About a week ago, I came back to my computer after having left it for a while and the mouse and keyboard both did not work. However, it did work with my usb mouse. It happened again today and it's really starting to bother me. The solution has been pretty simple. All I have to do is close my Macbook and let it go into sleep and then open it, problem solved. I've heard about the keyboard, etc. freezing up on the pro's but I haven't heard of it happening with the Macbook. Do you think it's a firmware problem or my keyboard going bad?

    Thanks!

I do not want to mislead you, but I think that it is possible to solve this problem by updating your firmware. I heard that there is some problems about the firmware of macbook

I had this exact problem with my MBP. The keyboard started acting up and and two weeks later the trackpad and keyboard were completely dead. Apple replaced the whole top panel and I got my mbp back in 2 days.

Yeah, that's the weird thing. I've heard of it happening a lot with the MBP's but I haven't heard of it occurring much with the MB's. And it always fixes itself when I put it into sleep and then out again. It's weird. Hopefully it's not going bad. Can't afford to replace it right now. Btw, how much did it set you back to get it repaired, altogether? (not trying to be nosy ;) )

My macbook actually started doing that about a week ago, went to my nearest computer store, and asked them about it. The reason I actually went though was because my key was popping off. :(

They ordered the part, I brought in my macbook and I got it back in the same day within 2 hours.

Getting it replaced, the person said it would be about $100 for the part, and $60 for labour - canadian dollars.

Luckily I'm still in my last few weeks of applecare. :)

I'm still trying to figure out what it is. It doesn't seem like my keyboard/trackpad is going bad. Tonight, both times when I left my computer and came back to it(the screen had turned off but it was still awake), nothing was working. Both times, simply close it so it goes into sleep and then it works. I can't figure out what on earth might be causing it...

    koryo,

i had a problem with my trackpad, but not my keyboard.... the entire thing would be in like slow motion...

but in regards to your computer staying awake and being completely black.... that's happened to my macbook before. i never knew why for the longest time, until i realized that i had my phone plugged in the data cord while it was closed. then it would open, be awake, but no picture.

i solved this problem by shutting the computer off, then turning it back on, but holding the power button down until you hear a LONG loud beep. This helped me.

    Elly.

    Holy thread resurrection! :p.

Anyway, resetting the PRAM only works temporarily (at least it did for my old MBP). Although I'm sure In the year since this thread was first posted, Koryo solved his problem. In the future, don't bump old threads as I doubt the issue is still relevant.
